Levothyroxine Side Effects (Page 12)
UpdatedI was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine?
I was just diagnosed with hypo thyroid and put on levo and fel like a new person. I felt like I was dying it was just too much effort to even breathe! They put on this medicine and it has given me my energy back and i feel like my old self. I do sweat a lot, and feel foggy in the brain at times but I would take this over what I had been going through for over a year. I had two doctors tll m my thyroid was fine and finally decided to go to an end and he said my thyroid was under active. I had lost so much hair and no my hair loss gone! I am on 75 mg and i started with that and it has bn almost 3 months. One of the most important things my doctor said it to take it on an empty stomach at the same time everyday so what I do is get u at 5 am take and go back to sleep get up at 7 and drink my coffee as usual. No milk because I was nervous about the calcium too close to taking it. It is suppose to be 4 hours at least from a taking ur dosage. It is important to stay on schedule and take same time everyday. Also to make sure that you pill never looks different when you refill that it is very important to not switch in any way. The brand has to stay the same if yo use generic you have to continue to use it. Hope this helps someone.
Gosh, I've been taking Levothyroxine for 7 months now following a TT in April. I have all the weird symptoms people are describing (drunk feeling/ brain fog / memory loss / cognition difficulties) and it's just been discovered that I have anaemia and a Vit D deficiency (I think my B12 is low too at 222). Hopefully once I get straight with my minerals and Vits, then the thyroxine will balance me out too. I've been very up and down and not got balanced yet or anywhere near (TSH from 0.11 to 15.!)
Seems like I can no longer concentrate since bing on it and am not a sharp as I used to be. Will it ever end?
I was dignosed with Hypothyroid four years ago and have been taking levo ever since. i am 125 MCG. i have headache all the time as well as can not concentrate on my work, reading or pretty much anything. its affecting my performance. Gaining weight as well. I live in Pakistan and there are not much option for medicines. the only one is availabe is levothyroxin. i did not know this medical condition is so bad and will ruin my life. Some times i feel my brain does not work. I am very hard working and now i have to go extra miles to get the job done. I am really annoyed and worried about the concentration issues. my work involves lot of writing and creativity and i have been struggling with that.Done yoga, meditation, exercise etc nothing works. have been a number of doctors , no luck yet.
Hey all :) I have just had my bloods done and I am suspected with this under active thyroid. I want to sleep all the time and have severe migraines I lack energy and have gained 2 stone over the
Past couple of year. I am
Keen to exercise but its sooo difficult finding the
Motivation ! However now I have read what you guys are talking about I'm wary to partake in the medication??
Laura. It really doesn't adversly affect everyone just us unfortunate few so take it if it is offered but go slowly if you start to feel odd. It's taken me 19months to get to 100mcgs a day and my bloods are still low BUT I do feel better. At first I took it as they prescribed (50mcs daily and increasing every 6 weeks). It gave me an abnormal heart rhythm, stomach pains, head fog, nausea etc etc so I stopped and then started again 25mcg alternate days or even less (I figured 'any' was better than none) and then I got to daily then slowly I increased the dose stopping or reducing it each time it made me feel ill (or mucked up my heart rhythm). Also don't expect 'instant' results. It takes the body a long time to get back to 'normal'. Think in terms of months rather than a quick fix thing. Hope this helps
Johnny - Yes! I had EXACTLY the same side effect. Amazingly enough, it will go away after about 5 or 6 months - once ur body has adjusted to the meds. Hang in there!!!!
I posted awhile ago with all similar problems. I was on levo for 5 yrs and never thought I had problems. then, i started using a new dr. when I moved. they lowered my dose (against my better judgement) I went wayyy down hill from there. It took 6 wks on new dose, test again, they said my levels were good. I felt horrible! took me another month + to find a new dr... got an appt. 4 wks. later..I'm now 14 weeks into feeling awful and many lbs. I went to new dr. (specialist) tested, wait a week for results, come back 2 wks later, (17 weeks into this saga) he said although I was in the "normal" range, I was JUST making it there, just a slight change and I would have been out of the normal range. that is where most drs. mess up. they look at the numbers only. HE ASKED ME HOW I FELT!! wow! whe I said horrible. The first thing he did was switch me to Synthroid, saying NAME BRAND ONLY! he upped my dose, retested, upped again and retested. I was FINALLY feeling better after MONTHS of this mess that could have easily been avoided if the first dr. had just listened to me about how I felt.
During all of this, I did my own research, the medical researchers (as of 2010)admitted to not knowing what "normal" range is because every BODY is different! My advice is this, if you don't feel right, listen to your body and keep trying new drs until you find one that helps your body feel better. good luck to all of you! I hope this info. helps someone out there!
Hey does anyone have red eyes in the morning and during the day? I've been taking Levothyroxin for 3 weeks, and I'm having joint aches as well, especially at night. I was taken off of Amour (taken from pigs) which the doctor said it was to high, and I should take Levothyroxin which is geared more for people. Really, I believe I was doing better with Amour. Let me know if you have red eyes.
I always had a "buzzing or Zapping" feeling in my head almost like when you get an electrical shock but just in my head. Since changing to synthroid I don't have it anymore.
stop taking this and go to yoga class !
Hmmm, im afraid if i stopped taking the drugs i would die. I have no thyroid and can only dream of being drug free and yoga being my cure.
Yes Bonnie you would get very sick, as anyone with a thyroid problem know you can't NOT take your meds... Adjij- stay off the boards unless you can offer some real input!
Does anyone have excessive thirst?
I started taking Levothyroxine one month ago. I get head rushes, feel strange -- woozy, tired. Additionally, I have been dieting all month but weighed myself today and I had gained a pound. I didn't have any symptoms but my doctor gave me a series of blood tests with a routine exam and made me have a 2nd thryoid test just to be sure, before prescribing medicine. I had to retest after 3 weeks and never received a call from the doctor, so I assume it's a good test result. Don't know that I want to continue taking this forever, though, and I stopped taking calcium supplements because the directions said not to take calcium within four hours of Levothyroxine -- and I always took a calcium supplement in the morning.
You could be having an allergic reaction to the fillers...check into it...
You should drink lots of water, and tell your doctor...Check your blood sugar...every symptom is important to let them know about...tell your regular Doc and your specialists.
I was loosing hair so badly that even my husband noticed, and made a comment I went to a dr., who I like alot, and he recommended taking Biotin, a natural supplement and in about one month I noticed a great improvment in my hair. Also, my fingernails started growing so fast that i am cutting them once a week now. It has definitely helped me and other people have noticed that my hair is looking thicker. Also women who are going through menopause have a double wammy on the hair loss problem. Several of my friends and family have started taking it and it has helped them also. Good luck. I take 5000mcg per day.
I have been taking levothyroxine for 4mths i lost a little hair that is all.I do not have other symptoms like the other prople do.But i noticed my left breast is tender and a small lump started since the pills.Do you think that has any thing to do with it?Other wise im ok.
It is the long term side effects that you have to watch out for. I was on Levothyroxine for over 7 years and started having problems in the last couple of years I was on it. Heart problems mainly. Irregular beat, skipping beats, premature heart beat, beating irratically and unable to get enough breath. Just be careful on this drug is all I am saying. You may not have any noticable side effects until you are on the meds for some time. Good luck with your treatment.
