Levipil And Encorate Chrono

My mother has a lesion in her left basifrontal lobe which is the most probable cause for the Generalised Tonic Clonic Seizures she's been having since May 2013. The doctor had suggested taking Levipil 500 twice daily. The thing is there has been no improvement since and she still gets seizures. A few days back she had a very severe life threatening attack after which the doctor has increased the dosage to Levipil 500 in the moning and Levipil 750 in the night along with an additional drug Encorate Chrono (300 in the morning and 500 in the night). Googling the new drug suggested a lot of side effects. My mother is already very weak mentally, not sure if depression is what she needs. Suggestions?

All medications carry the risk of causing side effects. The U.S. FDA lists the common ones for most anticonvulsants as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, dry mouth, and weight gain.

However, if she is having life threatening episodes, it is likely going to be much safer for her to deal with some side effects, for awhile, since they tend to be transient and usually go away, with time, once a person's body gets used to the medication.

In addition, there are antidepressants that may help, during that time period, so you may want to ask her doctor about her trying one, if she experiences mood swings or depression from taking these medications.
