Less Painful Way Of Getting Off Morphine?
(Newest replies first)

I need to get off Morphine. I have been on 100 mg twice daily for about 2 years. I only have a few pills left and am trying to wean myself off, but it is so hard. Is there anything i can do to make the withdrawal less painful?

I've done it this week I went to half for two days then a 1/4 then a 1/4 of a1/4 it's almost crumbed but it don't matter even if it's a tiny piece that gets such in your tooth I've had mild synptoms but still at work I'm going to start without tomorrow without I think it may work
Hi Kathy,
I know you only have a few pills left so this may or may not be a feasible option for you, but usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them over a period of several weeks, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for weeks at a time until the body is no longer dependent upon them.
In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete your goal within a specific time frame. Without a way to track your progress, tapering can sometimes be much more difficult than it needs to be.
If you're really that short on pills, I'd try to visit a doctor to discuss your concerns, in effort to make your withdrawals as safe and convenient as possible. Perhaps they can write you a small script to make this more doable for you.
I hope this advice helps!
