Legal Suit Against The Makers Of Nasonex (Page 3)
UpdatedIn December I was diagnosed w/ cataracts in both eyes (I'm only 54). Two days ago I heard an ad on TV for Nasonex & it mentioned cataracts were a possible side effect. I used Nasonex for a few months a couple of years ago & I just bet it's the culprit behind my eye problems. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

I am in shock. I have been in a fog for the past week, trying to digest the news that I have both cataracts AND glaucoma, and permanent loss of 3/4 of vision in left eye, and glaucoma has only destroyed a small portion of right eye. I was immediately put on 2 drops to try to lower the pressure and STOP the progression of the glaucoma. Doctor said nevermind the cataracts, we have to try to halt the glaucoma.
The side effects of the two drops are horrible, eye pain, headaches, tiredness, and vision is even more blurry. Like you, my work just covers my bills. My savings were small, and the two trips to opthamologist have already cost me 737.00!!! And, I have to go back in 3 weeks to see if drops are working and have more tests done.
I NEED my sight for my job. I have to drive. I live alone. I am alone in life. I am 57, husband of 30 years left me for younger woman, and with that came loss of medical insurance. I am praying new job insurance will help me out, but it is 1,500. deductible and they are not replying, as of yet.
I used both Flonase and Nasonex for years and years, to control my allergies. I was always told the steroids were such low dosages that they would not cause problems. (I was worried about aging the skin around eyes as steroids make skin fragile. NEVER thought of BLINDNESS???
My Mother lived to 92, my Father lived to 70, and my 4 siblings are older than me, and NONE ever had eye problems!!! No nieces, nephews, or cousins with eye problems.
I am scared. I have been googling/researching everyday and night, when not working. I am exhausted. I cannot sleep, only worry what will happen to me if vision loss cannot be halted. Could not sleep this morning, had only 4 hours sleep, and just laid there awake, so thought, might as well get up.
Was too tired to do anymore research. Made a cup of tea, and turned tv on for background noise. And, then I heard it...a ad for Nasonex touting it's benefits, then suddenly the fast talk of side effects...MAY CAUSE CATARACTS AND GLAUCOMA. What?????
Just now got online and googled 'Nasonex Cataracts and Glaucoma' and came right to this site.
Now what? In the last week, through my own research, I have also started several holistic approaches, as well as several vitamin/mineral supplements, and I am not done, yet.
I am disgusted my doctor acts like..."you have grade 2 cataracts in both eyes, and glaucoma has taken 3 quandrants of your left eye vision, and the top of 1 quandrant in right eye. Here are your drops, don't forget to take them. You do realize this is serious, right?" And, that was that. No information, nothing, they (his staff) act like I am a pain in the ass because I call with questions concerning headaches, eyes burning, and yeah....what type of glaucoma do I have??? They called back and said Open ended. They did however take CASH for the office calls, and said they would refund whatever my insurance does pay.
Anyway...I am rambling on. Obviously, no one to talk to on the matter and I am scared of what will become of me.
One more thing, my health is excellent, and although I am 57, people guess my age as 40 - 42. I have been practicing anti-aging since the 1970's. The eye doctor was shocked to see such a mess in my eyes, with no family history. I did not wear glasses, except readers of 1.5
MAYA: We all have damaged eyes, but your case is the worst reported in this site. You also need money. Would you be willing to launch the class action suit? Someone has to be the first complainant. Just call one of the following three medical class action attorneys and direct him/her to this web site for clients.

I used Nasonex for years. 2007-2010. When i started using no one mentioned the possiblity of cataracts. April of 2010 diagnosed with cataract in my right eye, May of 2011 diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye. Have not had any surgeries to date, however am going to have to do something soon. Both eye doctors that diagnosed the cataracts asked if I was using any medications and i stated Nasonex for allergies and they both said that was probably the cause. why is this drug on the market with such bad side effects and not really explained very well until the last year or so??
"Money", "Money", and in case you didn't hear me, " "Money". Now, I would think if enough of us who have had bad reactions and long term, life affecting reactions from these medications turned the tables and had an affect on their pocket change, I can most assuredly believe that the medication would at least not be given as freely without heavy thought and consultation behind it. Perhaps, the F.D.A. might even look into this more thoroughly as well. Just know that any kind of Steroids, although they can work wonders on some medical problems, can have very bad side affects dealing with cataracts for one and joint health among other difficulties as well. Many things I guess we are damned if we do and just as damned if we don't.
My sister is 37 and just found out she has cataracts in both eyes as well, she's used Nasonex off & on for 10 years!!!
Oh, my! I have had allergic rhinitis for decades and used different steriod nasal sprays so much of this time. Now I have early in life cataracts and possible hole estarted in my macula. Sure wish I had know all this. In fact, have been most recently using flonase. But last few days switched back to Nasonex. In last couple of days I have noticed a big drop in my visual acuity. Will not use any more Nasonex. Just hope that will help.
I've been using Nasonex for years for sinus problems. Just recently, I've developed sores in my nose that scab and don't heal. I'm using a Neti pot now instead if using any prescription nose sprays. How long does it take these sores to heal, and do you need an antibiotic?
This crap and a Doc that handed out samples of this like they where chick lets ruined my vision cataracts and optic nerve damage. When I complained the bastard did a Sergeant Schultz 'I know nothing"
I to experienced sores in my nose abot a year ago. I did a little research and I figured out they were caused by staph, this bacteria is everywhere and anywhere u have broken down barrier in our sinn it can infect. It probably found its way onto the insertion tip of your nasonex. If you can get a hold on some bactroban or generic version ( mupirosin) apply three times daily to inner nosrils with a q-tip for a week or see your dr to get some. This worked so well for me that they healed and I've never gotton them since. Hope that helps good luck.
I also experience cataracts for the past three years and I'm 55 years old and the eye doctor said I was way to young to have them and I have been using Nasonex for allergy's. I never had any problems until 4 years ago when my allergy's got so bad I started using the Nasonex and now I am having surgery for my cataract next Monday May 7. and the eye doctor says he thinks it related with the use of this medication.
I'm 55 year old and was prescribed nasonex for ear aches several yeaars ago. Had some vision problems(floaters) and was refered to an opthamologist to find out I have Glaucoma. Had to have laser surgery for it 2 years ago. Saw a recent commercial suggesting a link with the nasonex and have stopped using.
My son took Nasonex from age 2 1/2 until about 6 months ago. He is now 8 years old and was just diagnosed with glaucoma. How does a child this age develop glaucoma? The odds of him developing glaucoma at this age is 1 in 10,000.
I also given Nasonex by my Dr. an in 2009 found out that I developed same problems wirh my eyes. No history in my family. Surgery was done in 2010.
MAYA,, your case is IDENTICAL to my 50 year old mothers. She is completely healthy, had perfect vision, and is now living in fog as well. She has been seeing the very best Doctors here in California , specialist in glaucoma, cataract, and uveitis from UCLA medical center. She had to stop working a few months ago after she had vitrectomy (glaucoma) surgery to help drain her eye due to the pressure being so high. Now she will have cataract surgery in hopes of regaining some of her vision. My mother is very independent and likes to do things on her own, with the sudden and rapid loss of her vision she is becoming very depressed that she has to depend on me to drive her, read her mail, and do almost everything for her that requires vision...Your story brought tears to my eyes because I can only imagine what you are experiencing because my mom is going through these things as well, she says everything is in a fog and it hurts me to see her going through this. She took Flonase and nasonex for years and we know this is the culprit. She has been checked for every possible thing that can cause these diseases and she does not have any of them, which further confirms that the nasal sprays caused this. I would like to connect with you, Please, I want my mom to know she is not going through this alone.
Please respond so I can give you further contact information.
Alba, can the class action begin from any state? My mother is suffering from all of the above and has had over 200k in medical treatment and more to come. Her co payments are in the thousands for some of the injections and procedure she has had done and she still has more to come. The bills are stacking up and it is a really stressful time with the expenses, gas going back and forward to 3 different doctors , and the insurance requiring very high co payments. Please let me know anything that can help. Thank you.
Hello, Concerned Daughter. I am still at a loss as to what is actually happening to me. Some days I think I see better, other days, I fear I am going completely blind. The current medication (Combigan) is not bringing pressure down as much as doctor expected.
The doctor is also at a loss as to what is exactly wrong, and on June 5th I see another doctor for a second opinion. My current doctor says the pattern of blindness is not typical for glaucoma, and my cataracts should not be causing this amount of blindness.
The bills are mounting, to the tune of 250. - 500./month for appointments, and with my insurance, the Combigan costs me $117.00 (without insurance 459.00)
I owe the doctors, as my insurance is $1,500.00 deductible.
Dear Concerned Daughter and others:
A call to any of these medical class action attorneys will start the legal case rolling. (I have only phone numbers in Washington DC, but the case would be nation-wide):
Please let them know Jonathan Puth recommended them and act quickly to preserve any legal claims you may have. Give them the web site with all of our contact information.

Hey Maya, thank you for responding. My mom uses combigan and dorzolamide along with some other drops to control the pressure. Although she has cataracts and glaucoma, the primary doctor she sees for these conditions is an Uveitis specialist. The doctors are working together as a team to help her regain her vision, in the mean time they are keeping her pressure down and the little vision she has left stabilized, while we wait for the cataract surgery. We went through a few doctors before we found the right ones, so getting a second opinion and finding a doctor to control the pressure may be good for you. Let me know how your next appointment goes.
Christy, I am sorry your son has also been affected by this horrible drug. The fact That he is a child and has contracted glaucoma further supports That nasonex is the cause of this. How is he doing? What are the doctors saying?
I was prescribed nasonex back in 2005 to relive my stuffy nose due to a cold I was infected with, it gave me a virile nose infection that pops up whenever it wants to. It eats at my flesh when I break out. It makes me self-conscious as well as ugly. I'll avoid friends, family, and I've even called off job interviews due to the severity of the infection.
