Lamisil Treatment: 84 Days Vs 90 Days

Hi Everyone,

I've been taking Lamisil tablets for a toe fungus and my (250 mg) tablets originated from Europe. It is my understanding the treatment for toenail fungus is 12 weeks (90 days) - but my supply is 84 tablets - I'm shy 6 tablets to complete the 90 day treatment. I'm back in the States, but my doctor does not want to write a prescription for only six tablets without coming in for a consultation - in other words, without putting a few hundred bucks in his pocket first.

My question is: Is there any real difference in effectiveness between an 84 day treatment and a 90 day treatment? I'm aware that I have to wait several months before I see a change. I was told that typically in Europe these tablets, sold by the month, come in boxes of 28 - and 3 boxes would of course be 84 tablets in total.

Thoughts anyone?

Hello Steve,

According to the National Institute of Health if lamisil (NDC 0078-0179) is prescribed for tonail onychomycosis the administration period is once daily for 12 weeks. This means that you should have a total of 84 pills as 12x7 = 84. I'm not sure where the number 90 is coming from here, did the doctor in Europe instruct you to take it for an extra 6 days? If not I would say that you have finished your medication at the end of the 84 pills as that is what the typical administration period is.
