This is an over the counter Sleep Aid/Pain Reliever. 500mgs of Acetaminophen and 25mgs of Diphenhydramine.

Well this is what would be considered a regular or traditional release version of the medication, and under that classification they usually take between 30 to 45 minutes to start working. How fast they work can also be affected by other factors, such as if you have eaten recently before taking it, because then it will take longer for the pill to be able to dissolve and start working. It can also be affected by how much liquid you swallowed when you took the pill, if you just took a sip or two, then it will take longer and be harder for your stomach to dissolve it so the medication gets in your system.

That is why most of these meds tell you to take it will a full, 8 ounce glass, of water or other liquid. The extra liquid helps the pill dissolve faster so it starts working quicker.

So if it seems to be taking longer than 30 to 45 minutes to start working, you might want to think about what else could be affecting the release of the medications.

Did you eat something recently? If so, try revamping your schedule so you eat at least 1 to 2 hours before taking the pill.

If you normally just swallow a sip of liquid to take the pills, like most people do, try drinking more and stay away from milk or creamy drinks, as they coat your stomach and also delay the release and absorption of the medication.

Your own body chemistry can also have an effect on how fast and how well a pill works for you, so if none of these other factors apply, it might just be normal for you to have a extra delay before they are completely dissolved and used by your body.
