Konsyl Discontinued
UpdatedIt's true, I can't find the original formula at all, anywhere. Our pharmacist said they are not making it anymore because people want the orange flavored products. Konsyl Original Formula is the very best product out there, pure and simple, and I can't understand why the Konsyl corporation is stopping production. A very stupid move on their part.

From what I have been able to find, it is listed as still being available, and has not been discontinued. But yes, some people do prefer the flavored products, however, my mother-in-law uses one that isn't flavored, she just mixes it with orange juice. There are many others that are also available that contain the fiber, without flavoring, they just might be under generic names, rather than Konsyl.
The FDA warns that it may cause flatulence, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea.
Have you tried any of the others, such as Metamucil?
Re: Verwon (# 1)
The reason Konsyl products are not available is because they are being investigated by the US Food and Drug Adminstration. They were using compounds which were not approved for use by the FDA.
Re: Gilnute (# 2)
Yes, this may provide an explanation. But if existing stock (previously manufactured) is unsafe to use, consumers should be notified. Can you please provide details or evidence? See also another related medschat blog: rxchat.com/247949
Just to help try to answer the question...I had this product sent to me directly from Konsyl's website as a monthly subscription. On June 26, 2017 I received the following text in an email from a sales rep at Konsyl:
"We recently learned of the existence of a critical quality defect affecting certain production lots that were specifically manufactured for and shipped to one of our international customers. The product in question is manufactured solely for sale outside of the United States. We have no reason to believe at this time that any product shipped to any of our other customers was affected with a similar critical quality defect. Nevertheless, we are taking this matter seriously. Out of an abundance of caution, we are conducting a thorough quality investigation to determine whether any other lots were impacted. All shipments from Konsyl, including those for orders placed on Konsyl.com, have been temporarily suspended while our investigation is being conducted. Due to the suspension, we have canceled your pending order and initiated a refund regarding such order."
I have not been able to order the product ever since. The website is now back up but they are still not shipping. I hope this helps in some way.
Konsyl is selling it on their website for $99!!! An item that was $14 at Walmart!!!
Re: Hanya (# 5)
They also give the silent treatment to any questions about the “critical quality defect” of their previous product. The only reasonable conclusion from this is that that defect is very serious, probably a health hazard, and this has been kept intentionally secret. Therefore, regardless of whether they will resume production, consumers should be warned to avoid using any still available products in drugstores, Amazon, etc., most of them overpriced, as you say. Same for the CVS product that mimics Konsyl original, which has also been discontinued, apparently for the same reason.
costco has one. l just ordered it. DONT WANT THE ORANGE FLAVOR BECAUSE OF THE CARBS.
I really liked Konsyl because it is ground smoother than any other brand and does not contain sugar, and that is why my Dr. recommended it. I solved the problem of not finding my favorite brand by purchasing a container of 100% pure psyllium whole husks at Whole Foods Market, and grinding it down to the equivalent of Konsyl in a quart jar using my blender at high speed for a few minutes. Problem solved! I should have thought of that sooner!
I've been using Konsyl Easy Mix for well over 30 years! One teaspoon at night before I go to bed. So sad it's not available. I found this alternative to Konsyl Easy Mix - picking it up today. I will post if it's much different. "The Vitamin Shoppe - PSYLLIUM HUSKS POWDER" (12 OUNCES POWDER) for less than $9!
Re: PJ (# 8)
Does it work as well as Konsyl? I keep trying different brands and they don’t work the same at all.
Two things. I spoke to the rep at konsyl and she told me the product was going to be available in the new year. The konsyl website says, coming soon. That said, I don't think the company will be reissuing easy mix. She didn't mention it, and the site doesn't mention it. I have been purchasing the bulk psyllium husk at lassens and it's been working.
Re: Berman (# 9)
I bought the Vitamin Shoppe brand of "Psyllium Husks Powder (12 Ounces Powder)" and it seems to be good.
Then I saw on the same site, the Vitamin Shoppe "Psyllium Whole Husk Powder (12 Ounces Powder)".
Does anyone know the difference and/or benefits of the Whole Husk Powder vs just the Husk Powder?
Great News - I found Konsyl last night back on the shelf at my local WalMart store! The ingredients are the same, the product is not manufactured "by" Konsyl, it is labeled now as manufactured "for" Konsyl. The label does not state who is doing the manufacturing. I just wanted to share this good news! Have a great day everyone.
Re: celticgirl (# 13)
You should really look at the Vitamin Shoppe "Psyllium Whole Husk Powder (12 Ounces Powder)" or "Psyllium Husks Powder (12 Ounces Powder)". Cost is less and works great.
Re: Hanya (# 5)
You mentioned the price hike in the cost of konsyl. Did you ever get a response that you thought was satisfactorily answering the question about the price hike?
Re: Gilnute (# 2)
In my humble opinion, this is simply another in a long series of coverups by pharmaceutical companies— aided and abetted by the FDA, lobbyists, and filthy bribetaking congressmen/women.
Re: Philip (# 6)
I just called them they said it is not discontinued and that is a false statement. I dont feel comfortable using it
