Hi, Billy! Sorry about the problems that you're having.
Yes, this medication can cause withdrawal and rebound symptoms if you stop taking it abruptly. That can also create the risk of seizures, so you do need to be careful.
Learn more Klonopin details here.
Normally, they must be stopped via a very slow taper and the modern preferred method seems to be to have the patient start skipping days they take it.
Have you consulted your doctor?
You need to discuss it with them to see what method would be safe for you to try.
Discontinuing Klonopin abruptly or reducing the dose too quickly can and will cause the symptoms you describe. The only way to stop using Klonopin (or any other benzodiazepine for that matter) is to reduce the dose as gradually as possible. Sometimes people switch over to an equivalent dose of a longer-acting and lower potency benzo like Valium (diazepam) to discontinue Klonopin. Allegedly, the withdrawal is "smoother" because diazepam leaves the body more slowly than Klonopin. Whether or not this is true has not been proven. But, anyone wanting to stop any benzodiazepine should do so only under the supervision of a doctor who is knowledgeable about benzodiazepines. Remember: just because your doctor prescribed a benzodiazepine in no way means that he or she understands how these drugs work and how to stop using them.
