Klonopin Withdrawal
UpdatedDr. took me off Klonopin after years of use. She obviously did not know how as she took me completely off in 8 days. I am going through the worst withdrawals. What can I do?
Go to the hospital and tell them what she has done and unless you were taking meds that you not suppossed to be taking, she should have prepared you for this.
Thank you for the reply Kelly. I ended up going to the hospital and they put me back on 1/2 the dose so that I can wean off slowly. Even though I felt terrible on the inside, my vitals were good. I feel better taking it now until I wean off slow. Thanks again, I appreciate the support. This is really hard, harder than I would have imagined. I'm waiting to see what the low dose will do to help my symtoms right now. Will post again later. Thanks again Kelly.
my gf is on this and i hate it. when she takes one, it seems like she has no emotion, she's like an unfeeling, uncaring zombie. the things she loves, including myself, dont matter to her when she's on them. i know it's just a side effect, but still, it really bothers me. it's almost broke up our relationship countless times, and not because i'm the one that wants to give up. when she takes it, she literally doesnt care about a thing. is there anything she can do about this?
Just curious on how often you take it. I take this medication for my restless leg syndrom and only at night. I do not take it everynight. Si I dont feel any kinds of addiction. How often are you taking it is my question and why
Call your doctor and tell him/her to put you back on the meds and detox you the right way because you're considering having your lawyer file a MALPRACTICE SUIT! I went through the same thing for 2 days and got paid a very very handsome settlement
I am back on 1mg per night. I have Fibromyalgia and RLS, and I have to take something. There are other meds, so those who feel like a zombie, should ask their physician about other meds. It will take time to wean off the Klonopin though. I only take it at night and I don't feel anything the next day, so I am sorry to hear about J-man's gf. Go to the doctor with her and tell them how it is effecting her. Good luck.
Yes, unfortunately, the withdrawal effects and side effects that people are describing here are common to Benzodiazepines, such as Klonopin.
They should never be stopped too fast, due to the withdrawal factors and if the side effects are very proounced, it is likely the person is either on too high of a dosage or this is not the correct class of drugs for them to use.
Some common side effects can include: nausea, drowsiness, irritability and headache.

Are there any questions I can help with?

Klonopin has been the best band aid for my panic attacks and the worst drug ever to get off of....rebound effects are horrible. its almost as my withdrawal from Klonopin is the worst thing ive ever experience. You cannot go cold turkey. You need to find and experience health professional to help you ween of this drug.. Also get some serious therapy...get a therapist, and I have found that lexapro (dont get the generic brand) really helps.
Its so hard, but I think I can help you
I know, I know what you are going through believe me, I know hospitals wont help u if you are withdrawing from any narcotics they let u suffer, but for sure they don't want u to have a seizure because that could be deadly, I wasn't given anything to take home, but they did keep me for 5 days, and weaned me off of that drug with a different Benzo, and I left fine. I am glad for you!!! it is still hard to wean off isn't it? but good luck
Hospitals most defiantly help you when you are suffering serious withdrawals. The person who was locked up was in jail at the time of the two seizures and they didn't care!
tell her not to take so many have her give them you and you will give them to her the right way she may get mad but that what I do to my daughter, I told her that she had to take them right or get out so she them to me and I give them to her the way her dr prescribes now she is ok but she needs to call her dr and tell him she will have a seizure if not given a few!!!!
"Call your doctor and tell him/her to put you back on the meds and detox you the right way because you're considering having your lawyer file a MALPRACTICE SUIT! I went through the same thing for 2 days and got paid a very very handsome settlement"
YA, unless you are writing in as a ghost I doubt for your two days of suffering that you obtained a handsome settlement. That's funny!
did u get 8 days worth though? cuz that's what they do they will give you 3 a day for 1 week then 2 a day and the 1 a day did she do that that is hos my dr did but I found someone else
What are barbiturates for
DON'T start Klonopin
When you stop you may have non-convulsive seizures that destroy brain cells
I was given klonopin to sleep but I got wired up instead. So docs told me to use it during daytime to increase energy. I started having severe upper body muscle spasms. I would do stomach scrunched so hard my head hit the bed...FOR FIVE HOURS. Docs tested me for everything. Parkinson....hungtington....nothing.
So they increased my dose and added even more drugs. I became a recluse...almost lost my kids...and a muscle seizure zombie. Finally I read about some guy that had some issues with muscle spasms.
I asked doc to wean off the drug. I had nothing to lose right? He thought it was a mistake but agreed to do it. One and a half years later I took my last pill. I had two attacks the following year...but then it stopped. If I take Lorazepam once or twice...it happens again. So obviously it was the drug. I have increased trauma because of what I went through. I suffer from PTSD...not just from this event. I lost five years of my life because docs did not recognize adverse reaction. I lost long term disability through my company because one of them told insurance I was faking. I am considering legal action but I like my current doc....and he would be part of it. What if no doc ever wants to treat me again if I did? So angry.
I have been taking 2mgs of klonopin for 21 years. My doctor stopped prescribing it and I am horrified. I tried a 10 day weaning off regimen and I was damn near suicidal. Anyone on this site know of any doctors or alternative meds to help me? I am living in Tifton, Ga. Thank you all.

very good news. taking your vitals during withdrawal is very important. i think going to the hospital is the right choice. some people act like they are "too tough" for such things...
Re: kally (# 12)
Benzodiazepines are not narcotics.
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcotic). Narcotic means opiates.
If you register an advanced psychiatric directive with the hospital they should be able to give you a prescription for tapering. Not many hospitals will do this, but it is very important that hospital people know what medications you are on and how long you have been taking them; hence the advanced psychiatric directive.
with these drugs you must be proactive.
Re: kittie (# 17)
these days, barbiturates are used for seizure issues in _very_ resistant cases. If you stop taking barbiturates you can develop "barbiturate poisoning", that leads to an unpleasant death.
They cause physical dependence over some rate of time. These days most people abuse/misuse benzodiazepines. About 100 years ago people figured out that the barbs were very dangerous; they came out with the benzos because they are much safer; this does not mean these drugs are safe! These drugs are not usually recommended for recreational use, try smoking medical marijuana or something else please...
Recreational use, as far as I still know, is practically non existent.
Re: Ella Groebner (# 21)
why? why? why? Taking someone off of benzos abruptly is actually recognized as a form of torture. I would tell you to start taking it again. Darn - there is a difference between days and years!
Re: Momma c (# 22)
Benzodiazepines are fat soluble; they usually use ativan (lorazapam) possible Valium or Librium. No vinegar will not cut it - these things can be quite nasty.
Re: billy (# 10)
yes, an antidepressant is probably the best idea I have heard yet. According to the hospital doc - she says it would take a year for me to taper and she was not willing to do that. She says, your fine; TALK with your doc if you ever think of going cold turkey on klonopin again!
good docs are hard to find these days...
Re: david (# 20)
I would go to a pysch doctor or look up stress reduction centers. If you can stay off do it. Also, it seems getting less potent benzos to wean off with really help...I know some who used librium and another valium with cbd pills. Benadryl will help for some sleep but for me I'm stuck. It's what saved me but also sucks having to take something.
Is there anyone that might know whether or not apple cider vinegar will help with klonopin withdrawal? I just want off of this medicine. Can you take apple cider vinegar with klonopin?
