Klonopin, Clonazapam, Xanax, Ativan

Any mood altering meds should be tapered off slowly. Talk to your doctor to see how you should slowly adjust your dosage. Check your meds to see if they are benzodiazapines, like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Clonazapam etc (they have different names for the brand vs the generic, so check your meds to see what types they are.) They drugs can be addictive and do cause serious withdrawal symptoms. I had seizures when I quit Xanax cold turkey. I am now on Ativan, but a low dose that I only take when I REALLY need it to help with panic attacks and panic related sleeplessness. The more you take these meds, the less they work and the more problems they cause when you stop taking them. I used to only sleep an hour or so a night despite the sleeping pills I was on and the xanax. If you can get on an antidepressant/antianxiety med that works for you, you probably will start to sleep better and will need less Xanax. Find a good psychiatrist that can fully evaluate your issues and recommend a medication that might work for you. Don't listen to someone who tells you what you need without fully listening to how you feel and what other issues you have. I found a doctor that worked with me, as previous doctors gave me meds that sent me to the hospital with sudden liver problems that I never had before.

Thanks for posting this great information.

It can be dangerous o go off any medication cold turkey, however, if you were only using the prescribed amounts, the withdrawal effects are usually mild and very few people will experience seizures, but the possibility is definitely there.
