Keppra And Exercise
UpdatedTwo years ago I began having occasional episodes with fainting/passing out. It always happened when I was at rest, or even asleep. After many tests and even sleep studies, it was finally determined that these episodes were actually seizures. I was immediately put on Keppra, and that seemed to control them very effectively. The only problem I am having is the medication makes me feel tired and weak. I have been a runner and cyclist most of my adult life, and I am almost 70 years old, now. I still run and bike, but when I wake up and need to go for a run early, before going to work (still full time), I really don't feel like doing it. If I can make myself go ahead and start very slowly, I almost always feel much better afterwards. Sometimes, though, I feel too bad. I have to admit defeat and just not run that day. I know that it is also partly due to advancing age, but I'd like to find out if there are strategies to keep myself from feeling so weak. Any ideas?

Have you discussed these issues with your doctor? You might need to try a different medication.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of Keppra as possibly including nausea, dizziness, weakness, unsteady gait, headache, loss of appetite, and joint pain.

My husband was unable to continue taking it, psychological changes, such as altered personality, can also be side effects, and that's what he experienced, he began to be angry all the time, and just seethe, for no reason, but since switching to a different medication, he's been fine for the past 8 years.
How long have you been taking it? Most side effects improve, or go away entirely, once your body gets used to a medication, but that can take 4 to 5 weeks. If your symptoms are severe, or still lingering past that, it might not be the right medication for you to take.
