Kadian 80mg Hard To Find

My husband has been on Kadian 80 mg for over a year. Now all of a sudden the Pharmacy's are saying that they don't carry it and ordering will take two weeks.....does anyone know why Pahrmacys give you such a hard time. Actually had one, look at the current doctor's written script and say we have to call the doctor first, Oh you don't live in 4 surrounding towns (actually live 15 minutes away) we won't fill perscriptions that far away. This si so frustrating!!!!Don't doctor's have any idea where their prescriptions can be filled?

The granules may be sprinkled on applesauce because I don't swallow capsules.6omg had 180 granules.4 back surgeries and 8 granules eased pain.Amazing pain control

I have also hard a hard time getting my Kadian 60 mg. this was very helpful. All the pharmacist says "it's not available." Pain management Dr.'s don't know what's going on. I've been on this for at least 6-8 yrs along with Lyrica & Cymbalta. I've been in pain management for18-20 urs. This is the best pain control I've ever had. I'm so not looking forward to heading back down this uncontrolled pain rabbit hole. The generic form didn't help so we tried another long acting morphine with No luck. How do I contact the Kadian manufacturers?

Back again about a month later, STILL having trouble filling this Kadian 80 mg rx. After several years of being on it, having a meeting with my physicians and changing it. What EVER the reason is I cannot keep going month to month with this stress..I see it as a medication that looks dangerous, as it can be easily opened and it does rattle in the capsule like tiny particles...My fear is that is is being abused...may be why honest people who follow protocol are in danger of having none...

I have been on Kadian 80 for several years live in Michigan, and the last YEAR has been hell to get my pharmacy to be ale to get it. They say I am their only patient on it. WHAT are we supposed to do? I discuss this issue with my pain management physicians and they say the same as what you did, they have not been notified of this problem. I also have 8 years working for an internal medicine office and DO see the notices doctors get..This is maddening! Somehow this HAS to be solved, ending up in the E.R. is not an option for me.

Are you seriously suggesting that a doctor's office should know what stock all the local pharmacies have on hand at any given time?
Kadian is a C2 controlled substance. The regulations on this medication are much stricter than on other medications. Due to the amount of abuse, the higher healthcare costs (thank you communist-in-chief), and stricter manufacturing laws, the supply is limited. Also, insurance companies are denying requests to fill brand name drugs much more often.
I work in a doctor's office, and the majority of calls we receive are from patients and pharmacies requesting we ask for an override from the insurance company so a patient can receive the brand name drug.
Generics are cheaper for insurance companies, and pharmacies make more money on them than brands due to the cost of purchasing them from the manufacturer. There is no easy solution to the problem, but "free" health care certainly isn't it.

There are actually 2 different issues that have been causing problems like this all over the U.S.

The first is due to changing regulations, it's causing the pharmacies to not be able to order as much and keep it in stock as they used to.

And the second is due to shortages that always occur this time of year due to mandatory manufacturing limits.

Do you have insurance? If so, then the best suggestion I can make, which has worked for some other people, is to call them and see if they have a preferred mail order provider. They usually don't have as high of a demand, so they have a better supply and they ship pretty fast.
