Just Prescribed Nucynta--multiple, Severe Lung Issues & Nervous
UpdatedHi there,
New to this forum, and appreciate any replies/feedback. My PM doc (who has changed my meds each visit x3) Rx'ed Nucynta 50mg 3x day, a change from Percocet 10/325mg 3x day for BTP. Also switched to Oxycontin 10mg every 12 hours (from Opana ER) Stated he wished to "lighten any burden on my lungs" given my medical status: pulmonary nodules which are increasing in size, both lungs, biopsy next month; severe asthma, residual COPD S/P bilateral PE's 10 years ago. Using Symbicort inhaler. I am uncertain how Nucynta would lighten the burden on my lungs, given the warning about lung conditions/impairment, and specifically asthma--of course, respiratory depression can occur with many pain meds. I also have hypothyroidism & seizures, which are both listed in precautions (seizures not as well studied?). Frankly, I am scared to take the first dose. Never been opposed to changing meds, as tolerance issues are understandable. I do wish to be certain/comfortable it is a change to an appropriate and safe medication given my status, however.
Anyone else with lung impairments taking this medication, and if so, how are you doing--any complications or issues?
My PM treatment began approx. 2 years ago after a compression fracture at L2 (osteoporosis), and more recent issues with upper back discomfort/back rib cage area quite severe due to the lung problems--bad enough that I can no longer lift myself from bed, and require assistance. (I feel too young for all of this :P)
Any input on expectations about this med as far as switching from Percocet for BTP also appreciated.
Thank you kindly for reading the novella, and for any replies. Trish

I can't speak for your doctor, but my guess would be that he switched you to Nucynta, because it has been known to cause such side effects much less often than other similar medications, such as Morphine or Oxycodone.
Learn more Nucynta details here.
You can see the details at the article link I posted, under the adverse effects section.
Have you tried asking your doctor?
