It's Summer!!! How Do I Skip My Menstrual Cycle?

I want to enjoy my summer! We usually have a pool party on my birthday. And I'm also usually on my period. Can I use hormonal contraceptives to skip my cycle? What exactly do the white and brown pills do? When I skip does it make it less effective?

First off, I'd like to let you know that if you use tampons, or a menstrual cup, you can still swim, while on your period. There is no harm in it.

As to the pills, if your doctor approves, in order to skip, you'd need to continue that active tablets and skip taking the inactive ones.

Which oral contraceptive do you take?

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding, weight gain and PMS like symptoms.

The brown pills are just sugar pills, they don't bring on a period. Take those white ones until they are gone or you'll not be protected. You can start the next pack after the active pills, rather then have that week without active pills. This should delay your period. And if in spite of all these things your periods are still not delaying then you can consider tampons or menstrual cups. Some of the cups are so comfortable that you won't even feel like you're on your period.
