Itching Withdrawal From Cetirizine Or Zyrtec (Page 29) (Top voted first)

Updated

I want to know how many are suffering from withdrawal from this drug that causes itching all over the body. At the people's pharmacy there is an article about this very problem, yet Zyrtec doesn't list the information on their web site. This is my third attempt to get off of this med and I'm going crazy from the itching.

I quit taking Cetrizine all together. I am glad I looked up the side effects because I itch so damn bad. I have MS so I was thinking the itching was from that. The cetrizine was, I believe, making me sensitive to the sun so I decided to quit taking it without the doctors advice. I should of talked to the doctor first.

yes I just found out about this about 2 weeks ago and trying to weaned myself off zyrtec. allergy doctor told me I would have to take rest of my life due to msg and cold allergies but now I think hives and itching is from not taking zyrtec. I been off now since last Friday best thing to relieve itching is to take benadryl. I'm not planning to take zyrtec or any other allergy pill except for benadryl. Norma

I'm on day 5 of cold turkey and damn my withdrawal is horrible. I took levo cetirizine once every 2 days for 6 months for chronic hives. My hives used to only occur once every month and be non existent in the meanwhile. Since I started anti histamines the hives became a daily occurrence and I had to take the meds consistently. Now I know why my hives have been relentless if I get off the pill. Withdrawal and addiction. How the hell can I concentrate in school this week? It is so itchy sometimes I feel I like I am going insane. I have always thought of myself as pretty resilient with a high tolerance for pain. But this is really hell. I feel helpless and the days past by so slowly.

So much respect for all of you who managed to get through this. I know I am not taking cetirizine any longer. If I can't tolerate it i will go to a specialist and find some alternative. Screw this s***!

I can relate. I've surrendered for now and take 1 pill a day. Plan to work up to try again to ween myself off. The incessant itching is horrible, when going without the med.

It's Day 6 for me today. Went for 2h of lectures today and had to go straight home. Couldn't even bring myself to get lunch. Almost broke down in tears on the bus but I am not giving up. I reflected on a lot. I am so enraged because even though I am only 19, I worked freaking hard to get to where I am now. I refuse to let cetirizine ruin my life because I took it for minor hives last year.

On a positive note I can sleep better now as I realised not moving too much prevents the itch from coming on(but other times it's hell). It's pretty bad after showering though, had to sit on the ground for 5minutes whenever I get out of a bath because of the torture of the itch and burning.

Hi guys, the internal itching is somewhat over and I feel less like I'm dying from a burning itch. But now it's becoming more like a regular hive situation where I get big patches of hives here and there (I had lesser hives and more internal itching previously). Not sure if it's a normal occurance?

Parasite, I was wondering what exactly did you use to deworm? I am interested in deworming for my family since we also suffer from allergies.

I am at day 15. I was on in it for 30 days and the itching is insane. I have been to my doctor twice and today was put on a steroid to basically reset my body before Zyrtec.

Omg. I been taking Zyrtec for the past 20 years. My allergies are not only seasonal . If I don't take my Zyrtec at night my eyes itch horrible and my troath is even worse. I read that this pill cause liver problems. Maybe this is why I have melasma.
Does anyone knows a holistic approach for this problem ? I want to stop taking this Med. But I really need something for my rhinitis .

I am on the dreaded day 3 of no cetirizine. I only took it for about 3 month but not daily. I took it because of a reaction to a spider bite so I would take it a few days, skip and break out, and take it again thinking it must still be the spider neurotoxins in my system. I was not aware the itch was from withdrawal until someone mentioned it sounded like I was having an allergic reaction to Zyrtec. So I stopped taking it 2 days ago and now the itch almost has me in a mental institution. That's when I started researching the chemical and found the withdrawal symptoms. I use doterra oils. Which oils do you recommend for relief from the itch?

I am sick to my stomach, knowing that they never disclosed this information. I had insomnia, heart palpitations, dizziness, weight gain, poor eye vision, loss of hearing and a horrible itch, which I still have

I was taking this medication for almost 2 weeks because I'm allergic to cats. We were on vacation visiting my in laws. My mother in law has a cat and I knew that it would have been a miserable vacation if I didn't take something for that. So I went to my doctor, told him about my situation and he prescribed zyrtic. So now I'm back home. I have no pets. I washed all of my clothes but I started to itch really bad on my feet, legs, hands and on my neck. Not only that I'm also experiencing a horrible cough. It's the most uncomfortable feeling and after reading the withdrawal affects, I believe that I'm withdrawing from this medication. I feel like I'm going crazy. All I want is for this cough to go away and to not feel dizzy or itchy. I honestly don't know if going to the doctor will help at this point. Any advise?

I took it on and off for 3 months. I am now on day 15 of withdrawal. My skin is still red and splotchy but I have no new breakouts. The itching is minimal and only around the edges of the splotchy spots. My forearms and chest are all that broke out. Now the skin is naturally sloughing itself. I HAVE FOUND SOME RELIEF. I started taking DoTerra Essential Oil Zendocrine internally. I rinse with Nubian Black Soap 3X a day (make sure it has aloe & oats - this soap has been the best relief I've had during all of this). After rinsing I use a mist of DoTerra oils: Lavender, Melaleuca, (Tea Tree), Purify and Arborvitae in a coconut oil carrier. The mist is also very soothing. I keep my nails cut down to the quick and I brush my skin with a very soft brush. I can now see my normal skin color popping out from the red splotches. My skin seems to be extremely dry at times so I keep an organic, fragrance free lotion (I use UP! Organics).

How long did it take for your withdrawal to subside completely.

I took it for 30 days. It took 60 days to finally stop itching This was helped by taking a steroid and Ativan so I didn't stress the itch
