Is There A Generic For Savella

My Humana insurance will not approve Savella for me. My neurologist sent in a special request for it and it was still denied. I was taking samples that my Dr. was giving to me but that has run out. Is there a generic for this medication yet or another medication with the same ingredients?

I am using Savella, with good results. I had to try 3 other medications first (no relief). That is a hoop insurance companies expect you to go through. One of those other, less expensive meds ,may help you, your insurance company is hoping. Don't give up. Your insurance company can tell you and your doctor, which meds you need to try, to fulfill this requirement!

My insurance (Wellmark Alliance Select) will not pay for Savella either regardless of letters my Dr has sent. They want me to take another similar drug but that interferes with the Tegretol I take for a seizure disorder. Savella costs me $162/month. Very frustrating.

No, I'm sorry, it was just approved in 2009, so it is still under proprietary patent and there is no generic available, yet.

There are other medications available in this class, so you may want to ask your doctor to look into which of them may help you and be safe to take with your other medications.

I find it very sad that insurance companies don't want to cover it, in spite of letters directly from the doctor about why it's needed.

Northwestpharmacy has the generic for savella if you haven't heard you can use Canadian pharmacys

MILNACIPRAN is the generic for Savells. Has been avail for a long time. I was on the Savella study and actually closed it out. My Humana plan initially approved it, now denies it; although, I've been taking it for years and nothing else worked for me. Serious side effects with other meds. I will switch Humana as soon as I can . It sucks, issues with several meds after Humana approved them first. Shame on YOU Humana.

After having used Savella for years, Humana drug plan switched me to the generic, Milnacipran. Clearly not the same for me. Savella works much better in my case. I don't know what the exact difference btw the two meds is but my body tells me there is in fact a difference. Humana finally approved the Savella again, but it's a battle over and over.

Humana now covers Savella as a tier 3 drug, but not the generic milnacipran. Why would that be? Customer service couldn't give me a reason.

I have heard bad things about Humana; I hope you've gotten a better, less greedy carrier by now.

I used to get my Savalla from Canada and it was a great savings. Now my doctor tells me his license is in NY and I can not get then from Canada anymore. Very disappointed that I have to pay close to $300.00 month now so I cut down to 1 pill a day.
