I have had recurrent UTI's since getting married in November last year. I have been treated with different antibiotics several times. Now the doc has put me on nitrofur macro 100 mg for 6 months. Is this usual treatment for recurrent UTI's? Also would I develop resistance to it?

Hello, Barbara! How are you? I'm sorry about the UTIs that you've been getting.
Yes, this is the antibiotic that is typically prescribed in a low dose as a long-term preventative. It works well for many people to prevent them and the rate of developing resistance to it is not very high, however, if you do, there are many other antibiotics that you could take.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
