Is It Safe To Use Prednisone

I am a 24 year old guy and I had lower abdominal pain on the right hand side which made my right hand not function well. The Dr gave me prednisone and told me to take 7 tablets on the first day and 6 tablets the following day (7654321). Is this safe and is this gonna help me?

That is the way it is commonly dosed to treat some conditions.

What did he say was causing the problem?
