Is It Safe To Use A Medicine To Treat Irregular Period?

Hi.. I am 23 years old, unmarried. I have problems in my period, it occurs irregularly. So my doctor prescribed me this medicine..& I use this medicine.and my period started happening regularly. Is it safe to use continuously? Or Will I have to face any problem for my pregnancy after marriage? Plz ans.me..am eagerly waiting....

Hi Priti - Can you please write back with the exact name of the medicine which you were prescribed? There are certainly cases of women taking a hormonal contraceptive for years, and then going on to have normal pregnancies. Am I correct in assuming that your doctor put you on a hormonal contraceptive?

I also found an informative article which describes benefits and risks of taking a hormonal contraceptive over a long term. Overall it is safe for most patients who are deemed to be a non smoker and in a healthy state.

"Birth control pills have no adverse effect on future fertility, do not defer menopause, nor do they hasten menopause's onset. Many people ovulate within a couple of weeks of discontinuing OCs. Less than 3 percent of birth control pill users have a delay in the return to fertility. So people can expect to return to the menstrual pattern that existed prior to OC use. Also, OCs do not correct any underlying ovarian dysfunction."
