Is It Safe To Take Methadone With Buprenorphine?

I am in pain from four surgeries and need help.

Hi Jake,

Based on my research, taking Methadone and Buprenorphine together may reduce the analgesic (pain relieving) effects of Methadone. It may also cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms if you have been receiving long term therapy with Methadone.

It is recommended that you speak with your doctor before taking these medications together, so he/she can tell you how to avoid withdrawal symptoms. The combination may also cause side effects that negatively effect your thinking or reaction time. With that being said, I wouldn't say Methadone + Buprenorphine is "safe" to combine.

You can take subutex not suboxone because subutex don't have a blocker,

I think everyone is confused with subutex and suboxone because the naloxone is what puts you in precipitated withdrawal. The subutex doesn't have that so you can take them together and be fine. If you're worried about it, take a small dose at first (I'm not encouraging anyone to take anything just stating the facts).

Buprenorphine it's self is a mu partial opiod so the buprenorphine will actually block the methadone. Also both are strong and wouldn't be needed to be taken together. They are both long acting. A break through fast acting would help better. Please don't give dangerous advice when you are not sure please. Thank you.

It depends on the order you take them. If you take methadone first then the suboxon (subutext) you will go straight into severe withdrawals, the worst you can imagine-yoi will probably go into the hospital unless you take more methadone to counteract it.... However if you take the suboxon (subutext) first then the methadone you will be fine. . . Trust this, I know from experience

You are wrong! Subutex is generic buprenorphine and it WILL put you in precipitated withdrawals if you take it too soon after taking an opioid

I need some advice please. Ive been on methadone. I stopped taking it Friday. Two days later I took 2 buprenorphine and went into precipitated withdrawal, so I took 2 methadone. That was yesterday. My question is if I take bup today will it make me go into withdrawal again?
