Of coarse not. It can be done surely....but that's not how their meant to take.

When you suck on 'em, they wear off VERY fast! After a while, you will run out of patches B4 the month is over and then you'll be about as sick as you can get from WD's Plus your originial pain.

I'm on the 50 mug patch I wore em for 3 hrs they stopes working the kept upping me higher. I cut a 50 mcg into 4 pieces and I dnt see what the problem is if I chew on them throughout the day if my. Pain is almost gone. My prayers go out to all that have lost their lives and their family's. I use caution when I chew them it's for relief. I like to be high and feel good like the next person but when using this medication use discrection. And again it takes about 20 to 60 min for it to be affective . And u know ur own body better then anyone u know what it can handle jus be responsible

So it seems we have everybody from all walks of life here spouting their opinions. I love it when people mention that they shouldn’t tell anybody and keep it quiet so on and so forth then they post to the public here. Seems that they need attention. Many people that try totally unconventional ways to get high are looking for attention and if they kill themselves..Well I guess they have succeeded in the ultimate way. For all those who have lost somebody due to this foolishness my sympathy go out to you. Pain management is very complicated and has a long history. Introducing narcotics (or any drugs) via a transdermal system is relatively new thing in medicine. What makes all this tricky is the effect Fentanyl has on people differs. As with all opiates like drugs cross-tolerance is an issue. One of the things I see here is that even for a chemistry student translating the amount of active drug that will be available to absorb will differ. PLUS chronic pain suffers know that what may be enough to relieve pain may also be enough to almost stop breathing. My ex-wife who had stage 4 colon cancer who recently passed away was taking 60mg Morphine SR T.I.D. ( 3x per day) not to mention Perocet for breakthrough AND liquid morphine for breakthrough. That’s a lot of opiates and she was on 50 MCG Fentayl. My advise is to be careful with whatever you do. If you Are a legitimate patient suffering from chronic pain then get your doctor to address this. No one needs to be in pain if there are ways to treat them. The biggest hazard for a opiate tolerant patient in chewing these things is that they were not made for that and can become lodged in your throat due to the jagged plastic edges getting caught in your throat. Most people on pain meds who chew patches are grasping at straws. NOBODY needs to “run out†of pain meds if they legitimately need them. Since Fentanyl is a class 2 narcotic NOBODY can have it on the street because it shouldn’t be their. If it is then either 1. Someone is hurting because they had to sell pain meds for food OR 2. Someone lied and is not in pain but got some doctor to prescribe them some. I hope all the money I have paid in taxes does not go to sponsor people on SSI spending MY MONEY on chewing patches and instead goes out and try to make something better of their life then ONLY getting high. Don’t get my wrong I am a child of the 60’s and have had my share of high’s throughout the last 40+ years. As a great Bay Area newscaster once said…Get high…BUT keep your priorities straight!

Don't chew them!! I have been chewing them for 2 yrs (100mcg) patch at a time --going thru an insane amount -at least 2 a day-- I have major pain from a car accident & am one of those lucky people that have a high tolerance to meds. I am day 2 with no patches & am taking hydromorph contin 30 mg 2 x day-- with diualud for breakthrough-- I am not happy feel useless but am thankful to not have the sweats--dont abuse your med's take as directed-- it is not worth feeling like this!

I know I'm two years behind on this. I hate that ppl blame others for their loved ones dying. Instead of berating ppl for answering questions on getting high, maybe be glad posts like this are here. If those that had overdosed had come here, maybe they would still be alive with ppl letting them know a good dose to take to get high without killing them. I have been a heroin addict but am not now. I got some 100 Mg patches n know not to chew the whole thing now. I made the decision to do drugs, not the ppl I by them from. If u have never been an addict, u couldn't possibly know how we think. We r going to try to find ways to get high, regardless of who they come from. Its our on fault and a site that has first hand accounts, good and bad, is great when there is a drug we are not familiar with. I'm sorry for anyone who has lost a friend or family member to drugs but, no one sold to them intentionally trying to kill them. Not their fault. I'm glad of this site because I will safely CHEW a piece of this patch and enjoy it

Remember that these are patches and the bio-availability of the drug is excellent when applied to the skin. The adhesive is matrixed (cross etched) with the fentanyl but no adhesive gets into your body when used as designed - on the skin. Sticking it into your mouth will not only put fentanyl into your system, but will aslo put the dangerous adhesive and related toxic chemicals in. This will slowly kill your liver over a period of months to years, depending on your age, health, etc. Besides that, it isn't even worth doing because the bio-availabilty of fentanyl via sub lingual or buccal from the patch is extremely poor (not like Actiq -Buccal they make for immediate release under the tongue or bucally). I'm talking less than 25% of the patch via mouth will ever make it into your bloodstream. Is getting liver cirrosis worth that risk??? It's a very painful way to die and I doubt anyone who needs a liver because they abused patches would be put on a liver transplant recipient's list if the abuse fact got discovered. If you insist on near 100% bio-availabilty, then you must smoke small slices of the patch. Again, you are risking lethal overdose and lung/throat damage. Put it on your skin folks, the way it's been designed. Pahrmacisits know what they're doing. We are experimenters with lots to lose out of ignorance. My best friend is in liver failure after sucking on 1/8 to 1/4 of his 100mcg patches and these were the USED ones from his skin! He was doing this for one year and got sicker and sicker, not realizing his liver was toxic and becoming necrotic from the adhesive, not the drug! I can see people wanting a buzz; it's part of the "how the hell do I get away from this pain" regiment we are all (or most of us are) in. So, please be careful and kind to your body even in the midst of it being seemingly unkind to us.

I swear to God there's A LOT of ignorant people on here posting stupid crap, saying "Go ahead and chew it!" You're idiots!!! And you piss me off because thanks to people like you, I'm screwed!! I had a Dr that was prescribing Norco 10/325 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hours for herniated discs in my neck and lower back for close to a couple years. During the course of that couple years I had surgery replacing a disc and fusing 2 in my neck then 3 months later a surgery fixing a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder by placing an anchor in there. The surgeons then took over my pain management for 3 months for each surgery. After the 3 months I returned to my primary Dr for further pain management. After a few months of this my Dr fired me along with a large group of other patients that were on narcotic pain killers. (I know this because a nurse that no longer works at that office told me about the mass firings.) It has been a year since my surgeries and I have been in double the pain in my neck than I was before (it feels like something is constantly poking me at the base of my head) and still having pain in my lower back and now have pain running down both legs, knees and feet to the point that it is impossible for me to function. I CANNOT find a Dr ANYWHERE that cares enough to prescribe ANYTHING for pain relief and basicly treat me like a druggie! I was even referred to a pain clinic where the Dr will ONLY do epidural injections in my lower back. The last time I had one I developed a dural puncture and suffered debilitating headaches 24/7 for 3 1/2 weeks straight! So obviously I refuse to get another epidural. That Dr WILL NOT prescribe anything for pain because he says he has too many other patients he has to monitor. My new primary Dr says it's a copout way of saying he doesn't trust me. I'm almost to the point of eating a bullet because I am so miserable and tired of how much of a horrible person I've turned into and how horrible I treat my daughter, family, friends and coworkers. I'm almost at my breaking point and don't know what to do! I've even told my Dr that in the past, pain killers such as oxy (which in my opinion are worse than Norco) don't even help and I found that Norco is the only thing that does help! What can I do??? Where can I turn??? So PLEASE STOP ABUSING PAIN KILLERS FOR THE SAKE OF PEOPLE THAT NEED THEM!!!! Please somebody help me!!

I just heard of people chewing patches, and I'm mortified and furious. These are the people who make those of us with chronic serious and extremely painful illness have to go through and act of congress to obtain the medicines we need to just through the day with the ability to function in some way and enjoy some quality of life, gallery are flirting with disaster chewing patches, ( especially teens). If u were ligitamally using these drugs for their intended purpose and being prescribed them by your doctor u would be having this conversation with them, not off the Internet. Please get some help if u r doing this. This practice will kill. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just cannot believe the advice that I am reading here, anyone who thinks it's OK to chew this stuff is crazy. You don't give advice to junkies like this, someone is going to die because of this misguided advice. Wow, just how stupid can you be to tell someone to chew this stuff. Fentanyl is for people who are in dire need of a pain reliever when nothing else will work. This is the exact reason why some Doctors are afraid to prescribe pain killers, all because of the abusers, you make it hard for someone who has real pain to get the help they need.

People like you who Take pain medicine to get high, is the main reason why people witch need the medicine and Take it the way the doctor tell you to are having it become harder to get medicine. If All you want is to get high. You Don't need any kinda pain medicine because you are A abuser A Drug addict and need help someone should report this behavior to the doctor.. and thanks for making it harder for disabled people and real people suffering in pain now It's so hard to medicine in Florida because of people like you. Get yourself some help

@Barry I am in agreement with you, ami saying its safe to chew or eat? No. The thing about Fentynol is it DANGEROUS for ppl who have no opiod tolerance. I for them reasons am prescribed the 50mcg patch. It seems like either young ones are getn these and thinking theyre like vicodin. I think that's why a lot of young ones are being ost, also most ppl who are oD are the ones who are not prescribed this drug. Also I have heard of most death occurring because the person was shooting this drug in their veins!!! That's what gives it a bad name. but allover this site there are ppl in legitimate pain ,not being treated right. Ihave jut in the last year began to have my pain treated. (and be respected by my docs etc.) It took time to earn this trust. I do not get drug tested neither, (no reason for me to) but I go see my docs 1-2 times a week. They can tell who s an addict and who's not. Who shows up for therapy appts, not just follow up meds appointments. On top of my diagnosis, honesty and real need of help, I am blessed I have insurance that pays everything. Im in a ggod place which I have struggled with suicide for 2 years without meds!! I don't plan to screw his up!! I am sorry to all of you who have lost your loved ones....Awareness and understanding and talking to them about drugs all drugs!!(our youth, nieces ,nephews, our own childen especially!!)

I am a terminally ill person. There is a big difference between addiction and physical dependency. A person that is dependent for pain relief can use the medication as directed by the doctor. An addict can not. They must take more and more. True pain is the anecdote for addiction. This is what is known as opium toletance; the ability to take as directed by the doctor. Eating a pain patch is abusing the drug. Opium intolerance is taking more than directed.

Because of such rampant abuse of OxyContin the FDA made the decision to not allow the drug to be made into a generic form. I guess the patch will be taken off the market next. The FDA is currently deciding if Lortab, Vicodin and the other hydrocodone drugs will be raised to a higher schedule and refills will not be allowed along with no phone or fax requests.
I have been on 100mcg of Fentynal for about 10 years. I am currently tapering off the medication to see where I stand with pain etc. I was also a police officer for 13 years and injured in the line of duty, hence early retirement. I thought I had about seen and heard of everything, but chewing a patch is just crazy. This drug was created for terminally ill cancer patients. How it became used for chronic pain, which I suffer from, I don't know. I don't care if a 1000 people said they chewed it and didn't die, it's crazy, crazy and desperate to do. Addiction is a Diease. People remember that. Don't feed this Diease with ideas of "safely" chewing these patches. THEY ARE STRONGER THAN MORPHINE!!!! A lot of people have given what I call very questionable advice. If you care, don't give them ways to make this drug easier to abuse. To dispose of it, your supposed to fold it in half and flush down the commode. Pets can die if they get ahold of a used patch. Be smart, don't start this horrifying practice and don't give out info on how to abuse this medication. A lot of "educated" people giving their two cents, but with the misspelled words and poor grammar I question their authenticity.

I wish people like you would go to jail. Because of people like you it makes it harder for the sick disabled people living in chronic pain to get The medication They need. Please get some help with your addiction. And your supposed to take prescription medicine the way you doctor tells you to. So why don't you ask you doctor if you should eat a patch. Or snort a pill. Or smoke it. He will love to tell you a thing or two

I live in chronic pain also. But i believe you should take the pain medication the way it's prescribed. Not chewed or snoring a pill or smoking it. No Pain medication will make all the pain disappear. It will at best make the pain tolerable. In my experience people that are taking the pain medication this way ( chewing, snorting, smoking ext.) Is so They can Fell High. And It very dangerous. And if their doctor knew it was being used like that the Doctor Would Cut Them Of

Punky....like you I have all the illnesses you have, a few others plus cancer.

I am not judgeing you , or at least trying not to as much as we humans are not perfect.
I am only questioning as to why the need for anyone to have to take the drug differently to suggested by the manufacturer.
Is this not the idea of this site to question and learn.
I cannot try to say I know how much pain you suffer, nobody can. I can only relate to having severe chronic pain.
I can understand the frustration and agony of medication not working not being enough to deaden the pain. I am only concerned about people risking their lives.
You are right, it is nobody's. Business how you take the drug. You are your own person.
I am sorry if you thought I suggested you being an addict looking for a fix. I only go by info given to me from my Dr and pharmacist as to what type of person uses the drug in this way. They say that the illegal use of narcotics is why it is getting harder in some countries to get narcotics for legitimate pain.
My pharmacist also informed me yesterday that many "legitimate chronic pain patients" are chewing fentanyl. He runs a program to help them stop the practice by using other medications in various dosages. The amount of overdosing has become quite an issue.
I hope that you find some level of comfort as I know some things have no cure and we will live a painfully long life.
As I said before... I am only concerned about people overdosing by chewing fentanyl

Here's what you do: Either find another way to manage your pain or go to a Pain Management Specialist. Buying opiates on the street to treat legitimate pain makes you sound like someone who's not into treating the pain but rather someone who is seeking the drugs.

I agree with u 100 percent. If a person wants to use they will and if they can't get it one place they will find it somewhete else. I kniw also. I was addicted to loratab pain pills and still crave them even now that I have stopped using them. Also xanax. That is one addictive pill! U feel like your skin is crawling trying to come off them. I had to back off them a little at a time.
