The first two comments, if I'm reading it correctly, indicated to the person asking the question is that this is NOT safe and should NOT be done. Am I right

I would strongly recommend not cutting open the fentanyl patches. I did and overdosed and nearly died. Luckily the EMT had narcon. I was in the hospital for three days. Right after I od'd I had to be put on narcon Bc I had ingested a lot and I wasn't safe until it was out of my system. This was the worse mistake in my life. Don't cut them or bite them if you want to continue to be alive.

If u r not in chronic pain ur an a**hole to think u can comment about chronic pain. Many in cp don't even have a life.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CANDOR! So I finished opiate lovers or people who genuinely need them will have a tolerance to Morphine even and of course all the Usual Suspects... so I was thinking it probably wouldn't be that big a deal to chew a 25 milligram patch. You were so clear and non-judgemental, just plain facts. Thank you for your post. A few simple seconds of typing can have the effect of saving life. God bless you. And again, thank you!

I hope my state approves med cannabis soon but when they do I would like to know what is best for chronic nerve pain in both legs and left foot due to disc hernation and how do you find out. Tried it a few times in my life and only once I received pain relief.

Joseph it is very apparent that you know what you are talking about, I to have been on the patches and you speak the absolute truth, I don't think there is anything I can add, because you covered the subject so accurately and completely. I was on and off these patches for over 15 years, I was also on methadone, which is a drug I have been on for over twenty years, I highly recommend it for people with severe chronic pain in conjunction with another fast acting narcotic for breakthrough pain. People this is an important issue, addicts and people who use narcotics for recreational use have no idea the trouble they have caused for people in real and severe physical pain, because of their use, or I should say misuse of these drugs, they have been regulated and controlled by the government, people who have no clue what they are doing to those of us who need the drugs, they are making it almost impossible for us to get. So for the haters and drug addicts who have nothing better to do than rag on a highly accurate post, meant to educate people who care, f**k off no one asked for your opinion, and Joseph, Well done! You have successfully supplied extremely important information to many others that it may help, Thank you for your time and effort.

It is more powerful than raw opioids.

Are you out of your mind??? It is a fricking patch, it is NOT to be taken orally, soon chewing 1/4 will turn into chewing 1/2 then you will die. I cannot believe someone would be so STUPID. You are playing Russian roulette for sure.

John, you are talking out is 2 sides of your ass, first you say how to lick the patch and then you finish with the advice to not lick or chew it, how could you think a PATCH is ok to to lick or chew??? Smh

I cannot believe some people on here are giving advice about chewing a PATCH, and dammit its people like you guys seeking your HIGHS that us true sufferers can't get what we need, I am so pissed right now. Chewining a patch is just stupid and irresponsible.

TS, I beg to differ with you, about your tolerance to 200 mg, that would probably kill quite a few people, watch what kind of advice you are giving

This is the ONLY reason why we care about addicts overdosing and dying. There are many people that have chronic pain. Pain that is not temporary, such as a sprained ankle, or a broken leg that healed. We have damage to our bodies that will not go away. We hate taking drugs such as fentanyl, Vicodin, Percocet, etc. The reason pain management patients are being forced into caring about i*****s that use opiates recreationally is they are increasingly making it more and more difficult for those of us that use our medication, under doctors care, to get them prescribed when needed. No one in chronic pain would want anyone else to suffer as we do. Yet, people that use opiates just to feel high don't care about us. As pain management patients, we are required to have U/A's, pill counts, and increased scrutinization. They don't give a rat's ass about us, yet WE are forced to care about them. As if our lives are not hard enough as it is. I never even knew what Vicodin was before my journey through pain began from failed fusion surgery of my L4/L5. Like I said, we are forced to care about people that use opiates for a high.

Cut the patch into eight's. Only eat one a day if its not prescribed to you.

Hi Corinne, I too had spinal surgery. I have rods and screws in my back. Most of my pain, I believe, stems from the first fusion surgery that failed, (i**** doctor) and needed to be redone. This was in 2001. In 2001, I was started on Vicodin, that didn't help, progressed slowly up to 100 fentanyl patches plus Xanax as needed. I was taken off the patches 4 years ago. I am now on 20 to 30 mg of methadone plus 2mg of Xanax and am crying from constant, stabbing, burning, pain. I was a very successful equestrian previous to surgery. The constant low-back concussion from my chosen sport is what caused me to have surgery. I have tried marijuana in every form made. I keep hoping that marijuana will help, if only a bit, with the pain, but it does not work for those of us that need a drug such as fentanyl for pain relief.

I have deeply questioned users of marijuana for pain to find out 1. The level of pain and what you were using prior to MJ. 2. What does MJ do for you 3. What form do you use. 4. Were you able to eliminate any medication 5. Level of comfort after using MJ. 6. Level of what you are able to do while using MJ Can you now work? Rest well? Etc. I am pro MJ for anyone that gets any sort of relief. I wish, and still hope, that I can come up with some combination of MJ plus other herbs to help.

New topic: all of us on opiates get severe constipation. This is what terrifies me. What we get is peristaltic constipation. Opiates affect our nerve system that creates the peristalsis needed to automatically push the food from our stomach to our G.I. tract then, we need to get it out. I know of people who, have been on opiates for 10 years that now have a colostomy from peristaltic constipation. If anyone out there has had any doctor explain, in detail, to you about this, please start a new thread. I had to do my own anatomy research and just confirmed this with a doctor. I also have not met anyone that understands this ramification of using opiates. Unless geneticists can build a new waste system for us, we are f***ed, screwed, rather be dead, like I feel now...... How much more news can we take? And the damn media is solely focused on the abuse of prescription drugs. To anyone else out there: did you know that a very important current drug czar owns the largest chain of inpatient detox in the United States of America? They do not all use the same name, but nonetheless, owned by the same. Just letting you know.

Just cause a person like to abuse a drug SOMETIMES doesn't mean your a druggy. Dont sit there and judge people when your on the patch or a narcotic yourself. It controls you too duh if you didn't have whatever narcotic you use ummm you'd have withdrawls .. I'm so sick of people who lie through their teeth acting so perfect and here they call people out on things they do and done.. its easy. If u don't like what the abusers say scroll on

So could the person who wrote this post. You take that risk with the internet. As a matter of fact, your post seems the more likely candidate to have been typed by a child. Spell check comes with every single computer and phone. It's a shame that you did have a grain of good advice, I generally avoid the opinion of anyone who abuses the English language in such a way. How do you expect people to take your opinion as educated when you can't spell, use the right words or show a hint of actual knowledge about anything? Nice to know your opinion on drug addicts but this is not the place or post for that.

Some cool are really gullible if they think they can die from just touching a patch it's so stupid but the thing is with patches you never know how strong the piece of patch is u cut off a full patch and people don't think there high off it when they're actually ripped off there tree and choose to do another piece which causes a lot of O.D.'s and then you get the pop who use patches after they have already done other narcotics and the ones who use it for there first time and have no clue it's gonna be there last high

Not legally, it will say on the package not to eat, or any other way, the patch. I watched a TV show, "Death by Fentanyl" and it showed how ppl misuse it and it is also used to cut with illicit drugs to get people more addicted!! Stick with the correct way and you will be ok.
