Is Dilaudid Stronger Than Oxycontin? Norco?
(Newest replies first)

I am wondering if dilaudid is stronger than oxycontin? morphine? norco? norco 10/325? liquid 40ml norco 2.5mg/5ml?
Diludid is not a time released med so it's always going to work better than a time released med like OxyContin. Exspecialy now a days the new way they make time realesed meds is horrible the actual drug doesn't release into your body like they used .to

Ladies/Gents:
These more recent two posters put much of their time and energy into answering what is an extremely important, possibly the most often asked/wished they knew, subject/question among all us pain patients and certainly should be one that every pain patient should educate themslves about as best as possible...
...would a qualified person (these most recent & lengthy posts are great starts, almost all the info in fact) write-up a simple three or four column chart that sneers these HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE posting this same question and the thousands who wntto know who haven't yet posted:
HERE's MY ATTEMPT AT VERBALIZING THAT QUETION THAT DOZENS OR HUNDREDS OF US ARE ASKING AND THAT WE ALL WANT AND SHOULD KNOW:
How do the most commonly prescribed pain pills/meds compare in strength (milligram to milligram??) and effectiveness to those other most common and similar pain pills/meds that are most commoly prescribed for pain?
Some initial decisions to narrow down what could end up being an encyclopedia-like flow chart. To do that, my thoughts (but im open and can undertand most nything hrownmy way....decide for the"aversge Joe" is my first narrowing suggestion; (2) only include "opiates" and then incluing a "Note" at boton giving the general comprison with the Patch (which is indeed only available in milligrains .... making a infusing comparison impossible.... as compared to milligrams for the others discussed); (3) merge those with the same base/root drug {Oxycotin/Oxycodone, Morphine/Daludid/Fentynile ETC.} in order to reduce the number of headers/columns to a small number, 3 or 4 (I know that's small and we all have access to Excell but for this blog and or the masses I feel strongly that the simpler the better,,,with obviously some Obvious common sense standards); (4) then limit those up & down options to the same three most common strengths (maybe I can suggest it: .50mg, 5mg, 10mg & 30mg)...maybe not...doesn't the Opanna come in much .50 & 1.0 & 5.0 tiny milligram numbers?
If someone truly is certain, and if they wouldn't mind taking up their time doing so, it seems to me [and it's no coincidence that it would answer/address the question I had which brought me to this exact, VERY popular subject/question] that many past, pending & future questions would be more easily understood and answered more efficiently and with more confidence....
This would be the most important and impact full question & answer EVER POSTED here and unite possible could change lives or the better; possibly even save lives too! Warm Regrds, "Tenn-Timmy"
What is the active pain narcotic in Dilaudid? Can't seem to find it. Would appreciate any info.
If I orally take 30mg of Percocet at one time how much dilaudid can I orally take at once
List the strongest to weakest narcotic pain medication.
It really depends on the dosage of whatever pain medication you take and your body really.......
Excellent post, well thought out list. I agree 100%. I have an allergy to Oxy and just developed a bad reaction to Fentanyl..........so Dilaudid is the only one that works for me......Thanks for a good post.
You are wrong if you think oxycodone is stronger than dilaudid. People like you have no sense to speak of such things like that.
Dilauded is the 2nd most powerful pain med being 50Xs stronger than morphine. 2mg IV push of morphine helps pain. 2-4mg dilauded IV push, and your arm could be cut of and not feel it.
Fentanyl is about the strongest you can get
But in pill form
4mg dilauded = 30mg oxycodone (immediate release). OxyContin is Oxycodone released over a 16 hr period. So a 30mg oxycodone ir (usually called roxicodone) and is much stronger, but short lived vs a 30mg OxyContin as contin is the same dose but time released.
If a 30mg pill of dilauded existed, it'd be like popping 7, 30mg oxycodones, and it'd be a drug OD unless someone was opiate tolerant.
If you are speaking about PO Oxycodone vs PO Hydromorphone ( Dilaudid) PO,Oxyconde would be the stronger of the two, as the BA of Oxycodone is significantly higher than that of Hydromorphone. However, relative analgesic effects depend on the route by which they are administered.
Yes dilauded is even stronger than morphine. H addicts know and I do as well having shot H for 4 years before getting sober, the rush from it is better & more intense than H but the after effects dissipate almost instantly
Sorry ya'll I meant to say in the long acting opioid category that the weakest long acting med is
1. Nucynta (NOT EXALGO, like I stated in the previous post) then,
2. Ms Contin
3. Kadian
4. Dilaudid (Exalgo)
5. Oxycontin
6. Fentanyl or Duragesic patch
Please note that the strength and effectiveness all depends on the dosage.
To really answer the question:) From weakest to strongest short acting opioid pain meds in my opinion are :
1. tramadol
2. vicodin
3. morphine sulfate (MSIR)
4. percocet
5. dilaudid
long acting:
1. Exalgo
2. ms contin
3. kadian
4. dilaudid extended release
5. oxycontin
6. fentanyl
These meds were just the ones my doctor has prescibed for me over the years(20 years or so!). I am sure there are many others on the market to add to the list. This is just my personal experience. Everyone responds to medication differently. Good luck all!!
Fentanyl(Duragesic Patch-measured in mcgs, not mgs) is the strongest, However it takes up to 8 hours to work effectively once the first patch is applied. It is prescibed for round the clock pain management. A short acting med(dilaudid, percocet, msir) is usually prescibed in addition to take ever 4-6 hours for break-through pain. Fentanyl has been a life saver for me. Very effective pain relief and not having to worry about taking pills is a plus, which can be hard on the gut.
Good luck to all in your quest for a pain-free life!!:)
Wake up call... fentanyl is 80, yes eighty, times stronger than morphine. It is measured in MICROPgrams, not milligrams.
Oxy is far from the strongest opiate on the market!
Dilaudid mg for mg is the strongest on the market 3-5 times stronger oxy Google it if the rest of u don't believe me
You are wrong if you think oxycodone is the strongest prescription you can get prescribed!
