Yes, I started takiCymbalta 60 mg three months ago for depression and I find it works quite well, and I haven't noticed any side effects. Over the past 20 years, I've tried them all and have had side effects from them all. So far, I haven't noticed any from Cymbalta -- yet!!!
Telling someone that has had depression for years and that they don't know how to treat it, I don't believe is a factual statement. First of all, if you have Depression, a Psychiatrist should be in charge of treating it, not the person with it. What do they know about anti-depressants? There is also I question I would like to ask you. Did you ever hear of TRD? That is Treatment Resistant Depression and I have it. It would be better if you looked it up, but basically I went through the stages to prove I have it: 1. I have been on countless combinations of anti-depressants,mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics. 2. I had 4 Electro Shock Treatments. 3. I had the operation and had the Vagus Nerve Stimulator Implanted in my neck, which supposedly sends waves to you brain to stop depression. I STILL GOT NO RELIEF! I have been on SSD for 27 years. Finally as a last resort, my Psychiatrist prescribed 2 Stimulants--Nuvigil and Provigil--and they worked! The only catch was my insurance wouldn't pay for either since they are not FDA approved for depression--although if you look them up, you will see they do help it. So now, I am getting the generic overseas. Nuvigil is in the United States about $900 for 30 pills without insurance. I take more than one a day. The Modafinil I pay $200 for 200 pills, you don't need a prescription, but I called the FDA and it is legal to buy it that way as long as my Doctor has it in my records, which he does. It works. I am now depression free except at night, so what I do is combine 15 mgs. of Hydrocodone or Oxycodone with it. The first is an old prescription and the second is ongoing for severe back, hip, and leg pain. I can't say this will work for everyone, but it's better than lying like a lump all day doing nothing compared to being productive.
I am curious as to how you get the Modafinil (you say overseas, but not how you access it)? I have TRD also, and although I have not gone thru everything you have, I am so very tired of changing meds and not having very good results. My physician mentioned Provigil for my Fibromyalgia/exhaustion and when I asked my psychiatrist, she agreed that it can be very beneficial but not covered by insurance. I am interested in finding out more about how to get the generic, but would of course tell both my doctors, as they need to OK it first.
Val please go back to your doctor and if you are not happy get another doctor. You have to find the right combination of drugs and amounts of the drugs and take them for a long time to truly see if you are on the right track. I take Lyrica for fibermiolgia cynbalta ambient. The doctor just increased my dose of lyrica. Doctors do not know everything. My daughter was sick since she was born. No one knew she had a mild cystic fibrosis until I got the right doctor after many many doctors. Over the last 10 years they have learned that yes there are variations of illness and everyone is different. 20 years ago if you had cystic fibrosis you would die at a very early age. The last 4 years genetic diagnostics got better and they found there are over 1700 variations of Cystic fibrosis. I was so mad at the doctors that did not diagnosis my daughter but the truth is they do not know everything and you have to be proactive with your health. You have to listen to your body and have a conversation wither doctor. Good luck
I have been on both of them and don't seem to do anything but put weight on
Re: Candy (# 2)
I have a feeling that the opiates is what is the main one helping you. Yes, the others are helping too, but these testimonials are proof that this drug is helping people, even the worst of depression.
