Is Taking Melatonin Safe?

I take Melatonin - Usually half a 3 mg. pill each night. I had such bad insomnia and this is really a miracle. I read this article outdoorlifereviews.com/sleep-products/is-taking-melatonin-safe and it was really speaking to me. All I read makes me know it's safe but I just need some reassurance - since I love it so much

HI, Pat! Glad that it's helped with your insomnia.

While Melatonin is generally considered safe and is classified as a supplement, what you do have to remember is that it's actually a hormone. Thus, only proper use is safe and even that could cause some problems for some people.

If your doctor has said it is safe for you to take and you're not having any other issues with imbalanced hormones, it most likely is safe for you to continue, but you still have to be careful and stay within the recommended dosing guidelines.

I used it for awhile, but once I found myself in perimenopause with my other hormones going crazy, it seemed that I needed more and more of it in order for it to have any effect, so I stopped taking it. Please keep an eye out for that as too much has the potential to be dangerous.
