Hi Skye,

Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS is actually commonly prescribed for the treatment of diverticulitis.

According to the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a 160/180 mg dosage of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole is usually prescribed twice daily for the treatment of diverticulitus.

Hello,

Based on my research, SMZ-TMP DS oral is a combination of two antibiotics: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections (such as middle ear, urine, respiratory, and intestinal infections). That being said, I imagine it would be safe to use for a diverticulitis infection.

Have you ever tried using peppermint oil? Peppermint oil is widely used for irritable bowel syndrome and also has a value treating diverticulitis. Peppermint can relieve spasm of the colon, hence, the abdominal pain, and reduces formation of gas and hence bloating. I recommend having a drop or two with a glass of water.
