Going to the dentist tomorrow for teeth cleaning, and in the past have taken Kefex( Cephalexin ) 2000mg to prevent any chance of an infection. I am currently near the Mexican border, and have excess to a penicillin called Pota-Vi-Kin. Will this be as effective?

They are both antibiotics that are used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. But you should take the one that your doctor, or dentist feels is best for you.
Why do you usually take one? Do you have a heart condition?
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, and non-allergic skin rash.
