Is Opana 10mg Stronger Than A Oxycodone 30mg (Page 2)

i have new pesription and my dr. wants me to try opana 10mg. is this drug stonger and how much stonger than my last drug oxycodone 30mg..
OxyMORphone (Opana) is 4.5x's stronger than oxyCODone. So 10mg of OxyMORphone is equal to 45mg of OxyCODone, as OxyCODone is 1.5x's stronger than Morphine, and OxyMORphone is 6x's stronger than Morphine. This information was taken straight from my PDR as well as my experience in prescribing more potent Opiate analgesics.
Opana is SO much stronger than Vicodin/Hydrocodone that the conversion isn't even listed on the Opana site. It takes only 13mg of Opana to equal 60mg of Vicodin/Hydrocodone. So if you're switching 10mg for 10mg...you ought to be completely overdosed!
In fact Opana is multiple times stronger than both Morphine and Dilaudid. The FDA now considers the drug such a high overdose risk that that they are attempting to have the drug removed from the market.
If they're successful with banning Opana, I wonder which pain med will go next? Fentanyl patches? Then what? Many people need medication to be able to tolerate their own existence! And why are LEGITIMATE PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENTS going to be left paying the price for street junkies? [Bless them in their suffering]
opana er. and how much also how many Vicodin
I was just taken off Vicodin 10/325 4 x a day to
Opana 10
Mg to replace the Vicodin is the opana strong enough. Taking 10 mg 4 times a day
I just started taking opana 40 mg Er X 2 bout a month ago and 15 mg oxycodone X 3 , I was taking 40 mg OxyContin x 3 and 15 mg oxycodone X 3 for last 8-10 years ! I can tell my pain is being helped but the opana is NOT as good ,relief wise as the OxyContin - to me ! And NO high of any kind , which is ok !
It is ridiculous and unconscionable that you are offering lightly cloaked advice to misuse Dilaudid/Hydromorphone.
Folks, if you have serious pain, don't waste your pain meds getting a high from them that will last less than 2 hours. When you crush your ERs, they're not ERs anymore. You get the entire dose at once- and can easily be killed (depending on tolerance).
There is a membrane at the back of the (nasal) sinuses colloquially called "the paper thin membrane". It protects your brain from the junk in your nose (mucus). Crushed up pills are famous for burning holes through nasal CARTILAGE, never mind what they do to membranes and the lining of your brain. Most of us have heard something about how a movie star burned a hole in his/her nose had violent seizures and nearly died. Why does that happen? YOUR BRAIN can't tolerate having crushed up narcotics spilling DIRECTLY INTO IT.
I also am a Pain Management Patient. I was on Exalgo (Dilaudid ER aka Hydromorphone ER) 16mg a day with 8mg ir 3x a day. That was great for quite a while. Then it wasn't. When you get to Hydromorphone there's really nothing new left to play with (new drugs are in the development phase though).
It's really a matter of reviving the ER/irs that worked best before and seeing what works. Your doctor will start you off on a dose that's clearly too low, to try to wean down your need. My doctor restarted me on a 50 mcg Fentanyl Patch per 72 hours and 2 Morphine ir 15mg a day. That was rough. BEFORE I ever went on the Exalgo, I was on 100 mcg Patches every 48 hours AND 30mg Morphine! I have landed COMFORTABLY on a 75mcg Patch @ 72hrs and 3 15mg Morphine ir daily!!! THIS IS A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION! THANK YOU Dr. R!
IF your dose continues to increase over time, both in dosage and strength of narcotic, you will hit the ceiling. Your Doc won't go any higher. Perhaps they suggest Methadone. Maybe they want to refer you out to a Suboxone/Methadone addiction clinic. Take those med changes and reductions before that happens. If your pain is completely unrelieved, it's time to confer with surgeons. Don't expect your Pain Management Doc to suggest that, because his/her job is rehab, spinal inj's. and pain relief. Further you may want a referral to a neurosurgeon, rather than an orthopedic surgeon, if your neck is involved. It has been my experience that Pain Management Doctors almost always refer to Orthopedic Surgeons-- when the well-being of nerve structures are imperative in many surgeries.
I take 20mg oxymorphone generic for opana and get filled every month at Walgreens
I'm in Ohio and idk? If that had anything to do with it!! 0I know it's the strongest pain pill you can get and they don't like giving them out! I know at one time they stopped the availability of the opanas and just started making them available again!?
I too am using the Fentanyl patch and I wasn't really sure I was going to get relief. After I gave it a chance it really helps and if you have trouble with them staying on call the manufacturer. The number is listed in the paper inside the box and they will send you (free of charge) the tegaderm covers for your patch. I still use percocet for breakthrough pain, but my pain is now manageable.
I use exact same prescriptions and they both work fine for me...my PM Dr. Said I'm maxed out on how high of doses I can have now..I'm at the max and I only take 10mg Percocet 3 1/2 per day and 10 mg oxymorphone 2 a day...very strict on meds..she said it is because of new laws..I'm sure people are taking more then what I have been prescribed. ..anyways it does help...
I got some pain relief from opana but it makes me very drowsy. I am taking 30 mg er with 7.5 mg of oxycodone 2 times a day for breakthrough pain. She doesnt want to change the oxycodone. I broke my back two and a half years ago. Living with chronic pain is getting to me, I am not the same person. I am an a**hole but that's not me. I used to enjoy life.
The generic for opana is oxymorphone
I take 20mg oxymorphone er and 10mg oxymorphone ir(percocet) for chronic pain
OPANA IS A MIXTURE OF OXYCODONE AND DILAUDID.. THE GENERIC NAME FOR DILAUDID IS HYDROMORPHONE HENCE THE COMPOUND NAME OF OPANA OXYMORPHONE
Don't f*** with patches!!! That's all I have to say.
Has anyone used zohydro and pana er for breakthrough pain? Gonna start this combo tomorrow's row. Hope I can get the pain under control.
10 dollars I pay for Oxymorphone which is generic for opana :-)
Yes there is its called Oxymorphone, I get that 10MG ER and it works great for me.
I was moved to Opana ER 15mg and the Opanas do not work. I've tried for two months and have the feeling I'm going thru withdrawals. They don't dissolve very well. So I would not recommend them try something different. Plus they are very expensive com to a MS Cotin. Good luck.
Pain management. Normal drs are not prescribing pain pills any more, you have to go to a pain management doctor. My dr said for now on i need to go threw pain management and gave me a referral.
Yes there is a generic for opana er. It is Oxymorphone er I know for a fact BC my husband gets them in 10mg from Walmart Pharmacy. So yes opana er has a generic
Robert C. what a Laundry list, I will keep you in my prayers always, just when you think your in agony I read a post like yours and I realize I'm very fortunate.
