Is Anafranil The Same As Amitriptyline?

I have moved to Greece. I have had a Amitriptyline prescription for chronic nerve pain from the UK since 2006 until now. The Greek Pharmacy has given me ''Anafranil'', he has told me it is the same thing. Does anyone know if this is true? I am a little worried, I only use this at night and Tramadol during the day. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

No, Anafranil contains the active ingredient Clomipramine, it is a tricyclic antidepressant, so it's in the same medication class as the Amitriptyline, but they aren't identical.

The uses and side effects are the same, however, so you may want to consult a doctor about taking it. It may be your only option if the other isn't available there.
