Is Ampiclox Harmful During Pregnancy?

I want to know if Ampiclox from Beecham is harmful to a six weeks and five days pregnancy?

Hi Stella - According to the MHRA, Ampiclox is a combination of penicillin type antibiotics Ampicillin and Cloxacillin. Both are considered relatively safe during pregnancy (Ampicillin more so). As long as you are taking them under your doctor's supervision during the pregnancy you and your unborn child should be okay, especially if your doctor has decided to prescribe the medication knowing that you are pregnant. @Fortunate, check with your doctor, but that could be due to hormonal changes which accompany your pregnancy, and there may not be a way to resolve it until after giving birth.

@Bukola, congratulations on your pregnancy. Please see reply # 1 in this page. You should technically be able to take this medication while pregnant, but it is very important that your doctor be aware of this before you start since they may recommend otherwise. There may be safer things to take for your cough during the pregnancy. Wishing you and your child a good health.

Can I Use Ampiclox? Having swollen and bleeding gums. I was diagnosed of mouth ulcer some time ago and went for treatment and was ok. Just experiencing this recently and I am in a remote area so I can't consult any medical and am 2 months pregnant.

Hi Zommywinnie - Congratulations on your pregnancy. Do they suspect that the cough and sore throat are from a bacterial infection? Is it like bronchitis? If your doctor has prescribed it to you then they feel that the benefits of this medicine outweigh the risks and you should be okay to take it. Otherwise, if this is something which you already had in your medicine cabinet I would definitely confirm with your doctor that it would be safe. Please note that antibiotics won't help if you have a virus though...
