I started taking loestrin 24 fe about five years ago and then made the switch to minastrin 24 fe when the company discontinued loestrin. Typically, I will have little to no bleeding during periods and it always takes at least 3 iron pill days for bleeding to even begin. Recently, however, I had extremely heavy bleeding and cramping after just one iron pill that has continued for several days. This has happened one other time. Is it normal to go 6 months barely needing a panty liner during periods to having one so heavy that even ultra tampons (more absorption than super plus!) can only suffice for a couple of hours? If my body does what it did last time, I will go back to no periods after this horrid one.

Yes, that can happen, if your estrogen levels surge some months, but it would be a good idea to check in with your doctor, just in case.
The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.
