As a personal user of cannabis for a sleep aid, I do find that the herb itself is quite beneficial for this. However I have never tried "pot pills" or "THC pills" as others refer to them.
Regarding its use in pain management, my mom actually uses the plant itself for that, and she claims that it helps mask the pain to an extent (on an emotional and mental level); however if you want additional relief, I'd suggest growing the plant yourself and juicing the entirety of it. There are many testimonies on the web, mentioning how juicing the leaves, buds, stalk, etc cured them of many ailments (relating to nerve pain, inflammation, spinal degeneration, etc). Perhaps this is a route you might be interested in?
I hope that someday more people will learn that everything we need to be healthy is already in the soil, not in some manufacturer's lab.
