Inflammation From Xarelto (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy husband started Xarelo Dec 21. He is having a lot of hip/leg/knee pain, and we've been told the drug is breaking down the DVT clots and setting up inflammation in his body as a reaction. He is taking hydrocodone around the clock for this pain. What to do? How long will this last? Are others dealing with this?

Hello, Jan! How is your husband doing?
Yes, pain in various joints and muscles can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA. He may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising.
Side effects are usually transient and improve, once someone's body gets used to a medication, but that can take 4 to 5 weeks.
He's been on the drug since Dec. 21, so 20 days out, he's getting a little better. He just went on the one-a-day dose of 20 mg. instead of 2 15 mg. tablets a day. They want him on it for probably 6 months, so I hope all Xarelto side effects will subside soon, as he has hip arthritis to deal with also!
He's been on the Xarelto for about a month and a half. The bad feelings are subsiding. He is needing a hip replacement, but that has been postponed due to being on a blood thinner at this time. A big shot of cortisone right into the hip joint is buying him a little time.
He seems to be doing well on the Xarelto. The blood clots, as far as we know, are dissolving. His leg is no longer red and swollen.
