In Need Of Something That Will Help With The Pain.

I have herniated disc in the cervical,(pressing on a nerve) and also have Factor five blood disorder,therefore I'am not a candidate for any type of surgery,I have Hydrocodone 10.325 mg. 6 a day and 2 mg Dilaudid for breakthrough pain,the dilaudid works via IV but the 2 mg pill does nothing at all. I recently visited two different spine centers just to find out they can't help at all because of the factor five.They suggested the pain patch,(which I simply don't want to be on) I have watched people on this patch and last about a year after being on it.I'am not one to give up and not one to be doing the narcotic nod,I just want to be able to live and be active with little to no pain.I have had several people mention the dilaudid just how much should I be taking for it to help? I also have chronic Pancreatitis,Thanks in advance.searching for some pain relief.

Hello, Don! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

There are higher doses of the Dilaudid available that might help you get better pain control. IV fluid goes up to 10mg/ml, regular release tablets up to 8mg and time released up to 32mg.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you spoken to your doctor about the issue? A slightly higher dosage may be enough to help, while still leaving you somewhere to go in the future, unlike the patches. I really think most people should save that as a last resort, since it really doesn't leave you many options in the future, when you develop tolerance to them.
