Improper Release Of Transdermal Drug (Top voted first)

I was on Fentanyl patch for 2 yrs. Had many trips to ER for overdose or withdrawal symptoms with proper use. I think people should know.The doctors were always stumped at my symptoms. I had to do my own research on internet to diagnose the problem.

Susan, did your doc figure out what the problem was? When I take hydrotherapy or just a nice hot tub soak, I take mine off to prevent excellerated discharge of the medication. I was first on Durgesic then switched to Fentanyl when it came out and have done very well on both. I am so very sorry you have gone through this. There must be some sort of answer. Best wishes.

Actually, this can be caused simply by heat, like sjf said, they take theirs off when facing hot water or spas, to prevent too much being released, there are warnings on the patch packagine that warn about that very thing. There is also the chance that wherever you were wearing them was thin skinned and thin muscled, which can affect how this is absorbed by the body.

Yes, and a fever can trigger the same response. They need to come off when a fever hits 101. When I had surgery, back in May, I had a post op infection with fever. My patch had to come off for three days.
