I'm On 60 Milligrams Of Methadone (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am on 60 milligrams of Methadone, I have been taking this for a year now. I am very eager to switch over to Suboxone asap. If i quit cold turkey How long until I'd be able to start Suboxone? My counselor says that I have to tapper off no more than 2 milligrams a week & have to get down to 30 milligrams before that'll start me on Suboxone. I lost my job & can't afford to wait around another 15 weeks to switch being Methadone is expensive, costing me $91 a week, luckily I only go once a week being I haven't failed a drug panel since my 1st evaluation. Once they switch me over I can switch to a place that takes my insurance. What I want to know is why do I have to be down to 30 milligrams, why can't I switch on 60? Lastly if I go cold turkey how long till I can start Suboxone? I wish I would've know how hard it is getting off Methadone, I would've definitely went on Suboxone...The moral of my story is do your research....

Don't do it, I'm begging ya. I've been on both. I promise your gonna hate it, specially compared to methadone, suboxone does absolutely nothing for any kind of pain you have. You'll have less energy, oh yea and forget going to the bathroom. I wish to God i was in your shoes. I'm in RI and cant find a dr who prescribes. I use to go to methadone clinic where my quality of life was increased 100%, switch to suboxone which once your on have fun getting off. It's worse than opiates, methadone, ect. You'll remember this reply down the road if you switch you'll say damn i shoulda listened!!!!!!
Everyone reacts/responds differently to these meds, so I don't think there's any other way to know if it'll work well for Michelle until she tries it. We all have to play the game of trial and error at some point in order to find our sweet spot. If it doesn't end up working out, she can always switch back to Methadone whenever she is ready. Both drugs have their pros and cons, but neither are known to have pleasant withdrawal symptoms, which is something to keep in mind as well if she's going to be transitioning onto a weaker medication (assuming that Suboxone is a significantly weaker analgesic than Methadone) - but to each their own.
This could also be one possible reason why her doctor wants her to taper down to 30 mg of methadone before switching to suboxone, so as to avoid withdrawal symptoms that may or may not occur as a result of taking something that might be weaker.... just a thought.
