I'm Breastfeeding And I Forgot To Give My Child Ilvitrim

My baby is breastfeeding and I forgot to give him his ilvitrim suspension for one day. Is he at risk of becoming infected from having missed a dose?

Hi! I'm HIV+ mother and I'm breastfeeding. I'm having a 6 week baby and I use to give her nevirapine everyday, on top of that I use to give her gripe water and colic/wind medication. I want know if my baby is at risk of getting HIV+ since I'm mixing?

Hello Zuzu,

According to DailyMed if you miss a dose it is best to administer the dose as soon as possible. If you have already skipped an entire day before you notice, you can simply skip that dose and administer the next dose. If you are having a problem with remember to administer the medication it can help to set an alarm on your phone. If you miss more than three doses it is recommended that you consult your doctor to get a check up for your child to ensure everything is ok. Under no circumstances should you double up the medication in an attempt to "catch up" on the medication as this can actually poison your child, if this is the case please immediately go to the ER.
