I forgot how I took these pills the first time and I'm trying to contact my doctor but I've not heard from him yet and I'm leaving on vacation very soon, I remember weaning myself off them after taking a larger dose to start with.

It actually depends what you're taking them to treat. What condition were they prescribed for?
If they are started from a larger dose, tapering usually isn't required, unless you're taking them for 21 or more days.
This is a steroid class medication that may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, fluid retention, acne, insomnia and elevated heart rate.
