Ilvitrim,for Kidneys?
UpdatedI have a packet of 56 Ilvitrim should I finish the entire packet? My Doc gave it to me for a kidney infection and said to drink lots of water.She did not explain anything about the med to me,could you pls

It's unfortunate to hear that your doctor hasn't explained this medication to you prior to handing over the prescription for it.
Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, it is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. In the U.S. it is commonly prescribed under the brand name Bactrim.
Dosing and administration guidelines are listed below:
"The recommended adult dose for urinary tract infections is one double strength tablet (Bactrim DS, Septra DS) or two single strength tablets every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days."
NOTE: A urinary tract infection refers to a bacterial infection that affects the kidneys, bladder, ureters and urethra; so I would consider following guidelines that adhere to its use in those who have a UTI.
"Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim should be taken with 6 to 8 ounces of liquid to prevent crystals from forming in the urine. Persons with advanced kidney disease may require lower doses."
