If Sustained Release Is It 80 Or 240mg ? (Top voted first)

My husband and I are having a debate...I take 80mg of oxycontin SR three times daily. Does my narcotic blood level stay at a steady 80mg or 240mg daily?

Well, it isn't going to say at any 'steady' level, because it's always going to vary somewhat, due to activity, fluid intake, what you eat and etc.

But since the doses are split you essentially always have some processing out, when you're adding more, so you'd be looking at close to the 80mgs.

I don't know how much help this will be to your debate, but from what I could gather, the apparent elimination half-life of oxycodone following the administration of OxyContin was 4.5 hours compared to 3.2 hours for immediate-release oxycodone.

Half life here, means that if you took an 80mg dose and your next dosing was in 8-9 hours for instance, then by that time, nearly two half lives would've passed and you would only have around 20mgs left in your system.

By your second dose it may be as if you're taking 100mgs, since there will still have been roughly 20mgs left in your system from the previous dose within this time frame.
