If Allergic To Levaquin Should I Take Cipro (Top voted first)
UpdatedI broke out with skin blisters while taking Levaquin 3 years ago. Today my Doctor has put me on Cipro. My question is if I am allergic to Levaquin will I have the same reaction with Cipro

I started with Cipro on Tuesday and have not seen any adverse reactions to it. I need to take it twice a day for 14 days so far so good. I will keep you apprised of the results.
Cipro, Levaquin, and another drug called Avelox are all in the same class of drugs called the Fluoroquinolones. If you are unfamiliar with the dangers of the Fluoroquinolones, please read the article below.

If someone has a reaction to one Fluoroquinolone, they should NEVER EVER EVER take another Fluoroquinolone antibiotic. In fact, there is a case to be made that Fluoroquinolones should never be given except in the case of life or death, because the Fluoroquinolones are potent and dangerous chemotherapeutic drugs that can cause lifelong disability.

I too was put on Levequin about 10 yrs ago and broke out in a rash on my face..today I was put on cipro because of a sinus infection.I was wondering the same thing..I only started it today after being sick for 2 weeks and I just wanna get better but I know the two drugs are similar
After having an allergic reaction to cipro I was told to not *ever* take that or levaquin again (I have been prescribed one or the other for the same condition - repeated bouts of diverticulitis). I have reactions to both in the past, but tolerable. Levaquin would make my legs feel like "tree stumps" afterward but the feeling would go away within a week or so. Cipro gave me vivid, weird dreams and vertigo.
At any rate, after taking both with no long-lasting ill effects, I took the lcipro and suddenly experienced a burning sensation over my entire body. I knew I was having an allergic reaction, but didn't panic because I could breathe.
Woke up and went into the bathroom to get dressed, looked in the mirror and my lips were swollen to Donald Duck size. I also had a huge blister on my right arm and a small one on my left, but still huge. Interesting, the blister on the right arm covered a discolored dark, raised spot that had grown on that arm, the last time I was on one or the other. I thought at the time, that I had been bitten by an insect and was being protected by the medicine. Afterward, I wondered if I was actually having a mild allergic reaction. That spot is pretty faded but can still be seen.
Anyway, I now tell all my doctors that I'm allergic to both, plus penicillian (sudden allergic reaction as a child - broke out in very itchy rash from my scalp to the bottoms of my feet - took a derivative once, assured was safe, and broke
Although both medications are in the same fluoroquinolone drug class, I don't believe you'd experience the same type of reaction with a different brand. Your allergic reaction could've also been due to one or more inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) that may have been present in the Levaquin and not necessarily in Ciprofloxacin.
Have you started taking the Ciprofloxacin yet with any success?
I am alegic to Cipro and was given Levaquin for an infection. When i woke up this morning i was covered in red spots. I WONDER WHAT THEY HAVR IN COMMON THAT CAUSED THIS.?
Is it safe for me to take levaquin if I had allergic reactions to Cipro
Many years ago I was given Levaquin, I broke out in a burning ichy rash on my chest and face and neck, Two days ago I ended up with bronchitis my Doctor put me on Cipro.I'm now having the same symptoms. I'm also allergic to penicillin now I have no good antibiotics I can take and I have Lupus and I'm on immunosuppresants I don't know what to do now bear with the rash and hope my bronchitis gets better?
I was in the hospital with pneumonia and was given Levaquin IV and three days after being released I started having red bumps on my upper extremities including my head and neck. I now have my body covered in blisters and the dr is giving me anti-itch pills and hydrocodone for pain and it's progressively getting worse. Please help, if anyone can guide me to the solution. I’m in a lot of pain.
