If People Can Sue For Bad Drugs Why Are We Not Changing The Way That We Make Them Work (Top voted first)
UpdatedIf people bring suits against bad drugs, why can we not bring a suite for turning a good drug that worked until they changed it to where it does not work half as well any longer and have alot of side effects. does this not make oxycontin a bad drug. this all happened due to people abusing it, ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DO IS FIND SOME OTHER DRUG TO ABUSE AND IN THE MEAN TIME MAKE HE NON-ABUSERS SUFFER FOR NO REASON. PLUS THEY WILL NOT EVEN GIVE OUT INFORMATION OF WHAT WE COULD CHANGE TO THAT WOULD TAKE THE PLACE OF THE OLD OXYCONTIN THAT WOULD WORK THE SAME. I AM A GRANDMOTHER OF 6, I USE TO BE AT LEAST ABLE TO PLAY WITH THEM FOR A WHILE AND KEEP MY HOUSE CLEAN, NOW I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN, I SIT IN A CHAIR ALL DAY. I CAN NOT EVEN BEND OVER TO CLEAN OUR BATH TUB. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR AND INJUST TO THE PEOPLE THAT DO NOT ABUSE THEM.

I'm with you. The people that abuse it is what ruined it for everyone that needs it. I have been on Oxy for around 8 years now and my drug store never put a straw or a needle in my bag. Yes you here of people that die from it, But they are abusing it. People die everyday from guns but they still make them every day. You can look at other post on here and their trying to find out how to shoot the new ones. I guess because some people huff paint they will stop making it in a spray can.
In reality, every company, even those that manufacture prescription drugs are only out for their bottom line. Thus, it would not be profitable for them to suggest an alternative product that is manufactured by a competitor.
And, as of this time, Purdue still believes that their new product works the same and as well as, the old one, because it contains the same active ingredient.
For those having problems with the new Oxycontin formulation, I can only suggest that you report it to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers:
Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:
888.726.7535
FDA MedWatch number:
800-332-1088
The reason a lawsuit is not feasible is because you would have to be able to prove that they manufactured this product either with negligence or with intent to do harm. Your being in pain, as unfortunate as that is, is not considered their fault.
As far as alternatives, there are a couple that you can discuss with your doctor.
One would be the time released Morphine tablets, often sold under the trade name MS Contin:

There is also a time released narcotic patch that contains the active ingredient Fentanyl, sold under the trade name Duragesic:

Are there any other comments or questions?
VERWON, yes i have a question...... why do they only make Methadone/Methadose in 10mg. tablets?Because they did make others, what happen?
I agree its not fair for drug stores to buy the cheap percocets and sell them at a higher price. They are ripping us off. I have proof. Im 57 and on disability and if it wasnt for my pain meds it takes me all day to do anything, ive missed quality of life. So if meds will hold u off surgeries for awhile who cares. Its the people who abuse it thats making us live in hell. If we aint abusing then then whats wrong to help us with a little happiness, they're thinking the worst.
Everyone on Oxycontin is addicted. Just because you don't abusive, you are addicted and dependent! Yes, doctors were lied to, and we're told Oxycontin was a miracle drug. Everyone I have ever spoken to is being prescribed tons of Oxy.
After being on it for 6 years, you should know, you think you keep needing more and more. If you are still on it, or when they took it away, what mg were you on?
I never believed the doctors who said I was taking too much Oxy. I was told take less and my back and other issues would be better. I balked. I finally got off the Oxy, and they were right! And I was on Oxy for 10 years and never abused it.
There is another great pan reliever, Suboxone. It has been used for many countries for years for chronic pain. I was on Oxycontin for 10 years, using my cane and wheelchair when leaving the house. Now, no more cane and only wheelchair for long distance, or if I am going to be standing a while.
I am not pain free, but my quality of life is 90% better than being on Oxy. I was on 80mg x3, 10mg x3, Flexeril 10mg x3, and benzos.
I have my life back with Suboxone.
