I have a pill that is oval and white with IP 272 on one side. I believe this is Bactrom. Does it treat the infection of a abscessed tooth?

Yes, the FDA classifies it as a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used to treat or prevent infections, as deemed appropriate by a medical professional. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea , dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
