Hi. How safe is Ilvitrim for my baby girl who's 6 weeks old? She was HIV negative at the Hospital and they gave her a Neverapin. After six weeks I'm supposed to take her to the Clinic, then they'll change her to Ilvitrim. I just want to know if it's ok for her? They say i must continue to give her medication as long as I'm still breastfeeding her.
I am HIV positive and my baby is almost 5 weeks old & on nevirapine. He just started having a skin (facial) rash, so I wanna know if it means he's also HIV positive or what? I am worried and scared. I've been taking my arv's and giving him his syrup everyday at the same time.
Ilvitrim contains Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, it is commonly used to treat, or prevent infections, including helping prevent the spread of HIV, so you should give it to your infant according to the instructions you were given.
Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash.
Dineo, that could be a side effect of the medication, or an allergic reaction to it, so you should have your child examined by a doctor, as he may need to switch to a different medication.
Is there anything else I can help with?
