I Want To Come Off Pristiq.
UpdatedI feel betrayed that I didn't research this medication as a healthcare professional before I took this med. I have GAD and ADD. From what I've read this is going to be a miserable "detox". As a nurse I would call it that. I can be a few hours late and have symptoms; dizzy, electric feelings in my head, muddy thoughts. I have 4 children and work full-time, I hate thinking this medication because of "discontinuation symptoms" has so much control over my life. The FDA should def step up and put more warning labels on this matter.

I am very sorry about what you're going through, I know that stopping these types of medications can be very difficult. However, it is all of these types of medications, not just Pristiq, these problems occur with anything that effects brain chemicals in this manner.
Learn more Pristiq details here.
The best way to stop them is by doing as slow of a taper as possible, gradually reducing the dose.
Have you talked to your doctor about it?
There seem to be little info out there about withdrawal. But my pharmacist says that my severe ennui and inability to get out of bed points to Pristiq.
It is no easy drug to shake. Stores in the liver, it takes months to titrate down. Bad news.
I am getting off. Besides yawning, severe dry mouth, and the inability to now get out of bed: why give a sedating med to someone with Fibro?
Think twice about getting or being on this drug!!
Well update: talked to my doctor and we are titrating down 100/50 mg alt 2 weeks and then I'm going to try Cymbalta 30-60mg. Any reviews on the cymbalta?
Hello - just reading your post (after searching the internet for information on how to get off of the horrible drug) and could not agree more with you!! Prior to being on Pristiq, I had been on lexapro for close to 5 years (was put on after my divorce - and am now a single mom with three teenage boys). Was put on 50mg of Pristiq back in 2011 after it was first released (the latest and not so greatest brand drug on the market). I can tell you with certainty (and from experience) - that this drug is NOT is much more dangerous than other "similar" drugs on the market.
I believe that this drug should definitely be taken off the market - and will be filing a complaint with the FDA later today. Seemingly innocent people going to their doctors for help are being put on something that is not only toxic for their bodies (and brains) - but an RX that is almost impossible to get off of. It only comes in two doses - and the "side effects" of just missing one dose (or trying to go from 100 to 50mg as I did about a week ago) are just about intolerable. Severe headache, dizziness (to the point of vertigo), body aches - not to mention the "brain shocks" have all been part of my experience. I have found a holistic organization in CA - pointofreturn.com. They have started me on some supplements which should help support my body while coming off of this - and the plan is to taper off in 10% increments using a compound pharmacy. Please let me know if you have had success with coming off of this drug - and how you are doing... I ended up resigning from a very good position with CIGNA last October - to take time and focus on regaining my health. Currently unemployed and want to be off of this medication - and feeling well again! before I start my next job...
God Bless!!
