I was prescribed a medication two months ago I have five perforated disc and after finishing the six-day course I started to feel relief right away but it only last for a couple of weeks now my pain is back and it's only been two months can I take the regimen again or is it too soon ? Somebody told me that I could only take it once or maybe twice per year because it could be dangerous but other people tell me that is not the case at all and I can take it again whenever is necessary ?

Hi and thank you for your prompt reply! I am sorry to say I am not feeling better at all. I just got back from the emergency room and they took a U/A and on top of everything else it seems I have a UTI and now the doctor has prescribed some type of antibiotic. I haven't picked it up from the pharmacy yet so now I'm even more concerned with more medication, so I don't know if I should take the steroid or not? I've taken Percocet and Codeine #3. and I've become somewhat allergic to them. They caused me itchy skin and an itchy nose so I stopped taking those. I've tried Thermadol but those make me numb. So I've stopped those as well :( I tried PT at the beginning, it seemed that it was helping but after while it only aggravated the pain in my back so I had to stop that as well. The only thing I'm taking for pain is Advil which helps but very little. My pain management office is being transferred to another pain management office because of my insurance deficiency so it looks like I have to wait several weeks to get into see a new doctor to manage my pain. In the meantime I'm stuck between a hard rock and an ER.
Hello, Ronnie! How are you?
In a way both are correct statements, it shouldn't be taken long-term, or more frequently, unless your doctor instructs you to do so, because there can be risks, according to the FDA. But you can take another round of it, if your doctor feels that it's necessary.
The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, nervousness, insomnia, and weight gain.
It might be better to speak to your doctor about what your other treatment options are, a pain medication might help more, or physical therapy.
Are you on any other medications?
