I Need A Trusted Generic Manufacturer For Protonix
UpdatedI have been on the name brand of Protonix since 2000 and it has worked great. My problem started when the generic became available and my insurance company would no longer cover the brand name. The generic medication didn't work at all. I thought it was me, that I became resistant to it. But after talking to the Pfizer nurse (their US Drug Safety Unit) I was told there are bad generic versions of Protonix on the market. I was able to get my insurance company to cover the brand name up until last September 2016. Now they refuse to cover it. There are approximately 17 different generic manufacturers I found on the internet. Has anybody had a generic version of protonix that worked as well as the name brand one? The manufacturer name should be somewhere on your medication bottle. If you can't find it on your bottle your pharmacist would be able to tell you the name. It may save me from pain and suffering and a lot of trial and error randomly trying each manufacturer until I find one that works. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi,
Sorry to hear this, there are bad generics of almost every med. I am on medicare and take all generic meds. I used to take brand name Zantac. I had to switch to generic zantac, and it didn't do much so I switched to over the counter brand name Tagemet. Sorry, I can't tell you which generic protonix to use. Generics which I trust are Teva and Actavis.
No matter whether you trial and error with generics or brand, it's always trial and error. We all react/respond differently to both, whereas there's no way of knowing ahead of time how well it will or will not work... For patients who do know what they want, I think the best thing to do to circumvent getting inferior alternatives is to ask your doctor to specify the particular manufacturer's name on the prescription; this way the pharmacist will have to (should likely) fill the doctor's order. Another idea is to consider checking out a compounding pharmacy if you wish to add or avoid certain excipients in a given brand or generic formula that are more closely comparable to the efficacy of Protonix.
Hope this helps!
