Hello, Janet! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having.
What type of doctor? If it was a general practitioner or your neurologist, then no, I would not be surprised at their not knowing what that means. They don't study such things as intently as a Orthopedic surgeons does.
But the treatment choices usually start with physical therapy, rather than pain medications.
