I Need A New Drug
UpdatedMy wife is retiring so I'm going to have to change my health insurance and I know oxycontin will not be covered. I have polio and am on permanent disability, I'm taking 3 20mgs of oxy a day and trying to figure out what to ask for. I have a great doctor and he will pretty much ask me what I want. I don't want any but I've tried that and ended up in too much pain to even function. At one time I was taking 4 80's a day for years but took myself off. Not a fun experience but I also did it because I knew this day was coming for my wife to retire. Anyway, I really need something stronger but am reluctant to go there. I was taking #10 loratab before going back on low dose of oxy but they were making me sick. I'm thinking maybe morphine? I don't know, I've heard percocet is same as oxycontin? years ago I used fentanly patches but couldn't keep them stuck to me because I was sweating so much. but I've thought about trying those again. I've put this off as long as possible because the oxycontin has always been what works best for my pain and not having any bad side effects. I'm going in wednesday to see my doc and decide what to do. Just wanted so see what say you? LOL

Reverand Elridge,
If you have an excellent Doctor you trust and will give you anything then you are truly blessed and trust he will do right by you. The LAST THING you want is to hear the advice and opinions of pseudo practioners here or in any other open forum. Most here genuinely care and aspire to assist others but when it involves your health and future pain relief trust in your PHYSICIAN especially if you have a comfortable open dialogue with him/her. Best of luck and God speed.....
Percocet contains a combination of Acetaminophen with Oxycodone and is only available in a maximum dose of 10mgs Oxycodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen, so it will be hard to adjust that to match your current dosage, while still staying in the Acetaminophen safety limits.
There is a time release formulation of Morphine available, the brand name is MS Contin, but it is also available as a generic.
There are now additional methods to help keep the Fentanyl patches on, so that is another option you can discuss with your doctor.
The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Another idea could be Opana ER.
I am not a doctor, so just throwing some ideas out there that you can ask your doctor about.
Suffering, where are you located? If you can post back with your general location, someone might be able to recommend a doctor for you.
