I just this morning went to my doctor and I went because my back pain I have had for 3 years that I have opted not to take pain killers for has gotten so bad I can't work out, I can't stand at work for more than 5 minutes with out pain and I am now losing sleep too. I told my doctor all of this and he thinks i need to have rehabilitation and physical therapy which doesnt even start till next month. I need a doctor that understands my immediate needs for my pain. Can anyone help?
Can u recommend a Dr. To me too pls. Same situation.
Kaiser MDs are being forced to get very tough with pain and any other meds that actually make a patient feel better. BIG BROTHER IS ALWAYS WATCHING! Them. Not you.
Current Kaiser medical practice is now completely computerized, impersonal and dedicated more to imputting info and asking general questions than answering specific or personal ones you may raise. I wonder if file clerks with a HS educations couldn't do the same job.
Doctors are now given uniform computerized responses that are spat out reflecting your answers to the uniform computer generated questions. And they seem to be scared to death to think outside of the computer box.
But Kaiser is good about responding to a request to change the MD you're assigned to. You can ask to change and you just may get lucky and find a doc who will look at your face instead of his/her computer.
All of this kind of medical practice is to save time and therefore save/make money. Before too long every physician will practice medicine this way. Eventually even the Beverly Hills Concierge Docs who currently put on a pretty good act of appearing to care about their Elite Patients will start paying more attention to clocks and computers to support their elite life style. What works works. Is this Good Medicine???
This message is to Drubs8. I am in your exact position. I was taking 10 mg Norco for a few years off and on and now my Kaiser doc doesn't want me taking it daily so he basically cut me off. I'm so betrayed and in even more pain than before. I have degenerative disc disease, spondylosis and radiculopathy. Can anyone help??
Need a dr. In San Jose CA that will prescribe hydrocodone for back pain and sciatica. I had kaiser who pretty much advises against taking Tylenol lol
Lou that post was to you. Also I live in san Jose,ca
By the way Lou this post was to you.
Hi, my name is Tony. I know you asked scott what he was looking for in a dr. But I need a new 1 too. My doctors office just closed down yesterday. My doctor was prescribing me 10mg hydrocodone. Which I was allowed to take 8 times a day. He would prescribe me 240 a month. I was looking for a dr. Simular to mine. If you know of 1 please let me know.
Hey Lou are you still out there? Daniel is the last on FB
Lou hell I'll try it this way I have been going to 2 Dr in Jax Fla since 1995 I have tried a variety of meds through the years but it seems that the methadone(10) 8times aday and roxicodon (30) 4-6 times a day are what do the best. When I had Ins I did rehab, epedural injection, PT etc to no avail. I have no problem putting a new Dr in touch with my Dr back in Jax. I had to take myself off the meds not long after I got here and I thought I would see if my pain level had changed and it hasn't I look like a 80yr old man shuffling around and now I am having reoccuring pain in my neck. I have no ins now and I know new patient visits are not cheap but
the meds are not that expensive so I am sure I can work thru that. I'm just looking for a Dr who can work with me on my problems concerning my back I know most Dr want you to sign a contract thats no problem hell I will pee in a cup if thats the case. Get back to me
Lou here is the first post from Apr. I don't know if this will help

Thanks for time
I'm looking for a new Dr having moved to Calif recently from Fla.I have been on methadone 80mg aday and Roxicodone #30 x4 aday for over 2yrs with my last Dr in Fla and for 10ys with my first Dr in Fla. I have taken a few different meds with the first doctor Oxycontin 40 and 80 as well as methadone and morphin which did nothing but cause a terrible case of constipation I have chronic back problems The L4 and the L5 Have had 8 epidurals which really lasted that long. It seems that they look at pain mngmt a little different here in Calif then they do in Fla. I am almost 60 yrs old and my back continues to get worse. I understand there are problems with these drugs in many places esp in Fla. Both my Dr.s were lic and were on hospital staffs The last one I was seeing before moving out here is an antheisolist (?) sorry about my spelling. I am now in San Jose Ca. now If you can recommend to be a few Drs that possibly could help out
Hi Wes,
In regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}
You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist
Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.
Unfortunately, no one can know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion. Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any specific medication when you see a new doctor. Make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach is to discuss up front and honestly what has and hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration if they know it's worked for you without causing any problems or severe side effects.
I hope this information helps!
